Heading out for the weekend on a favourite walleye lake of mine. Only slept on this lake a few times and changing spots for this trip.

The spot I am heading to has a lot of structure going from 7ft to 40ft with a lot of inside turns and benches. There is a nice funnel leading from 30ft to 7ft. Seems like a clear route for walleye to go from deep to shallow. I am wondering how shallow I should be setting up the shack for the night.

I was thinking 10-15 feet. Not sure this time of year if the walleye are going much shallower in the evening.

I will be chasing the bite during the day but would sure like a bell or two to wake me up at night.

The lake has about 20-22” of ice currently, no snow cover and has about 12-15’ of visibility if that helps. We are coming out of a cold snap and have very warm weather this coming weekend. Also it is a few days before full moon.

I attached an imagine of the spot I am thinking of. The house waypoint is where I was thinking. It’s at 15ft. Set up shallower or that depth and location is good?

    Thanks for all the insight

I’m far (very far) from being an expert but I think you have a good plan.

Appreciate it. Will find out in a couple days. It makes sense in my head but we all know, when you think you got them figured out they throw a curveball your way.

Any weeds, rocks, gravel or sand? Do you have an underwater camera to look at bottom composition during the day to find a nice transition area for your overnight stay?

Don’t know prior the bottom composition but will be bringing my camera to check. From what I know about most the the rest of lake is majority sand.

That point looks like a good spot. Seems like you have a good plan. With the camera you can see any structure around it or maybe rock to sand transition.

With clear water and no snow I would think silence will be important.
