Ridiculous! Those birds have never been called anything else since the person they’re named after invented them! whistling

I don’t think I care. Its not like we were running around calling everything by its latin name either so what’s the big deal?

They better not mess with the Tufted Titmouse, Swallow of any variety or American Woodcock. And I would also miss seeing flocks of Dickcissel’s.

jester BTW I am with you on this. Changing names of roads, lakes or animals is ridiculous but that’s what happens when let “those” types of people get power.

Bird 1, 2, 3 etc would work. No one would get offended.

BTW – naming a street corner after a convicted criminal is ok?

George Washington, James Madison, James Monroe, all convicted criminals. Schools and streets named after them. I wonder if they change the name of Falco Washingtonii?

I cannot believe people have so little in their lives that they have to pick at problems like the name of a bird and trying to change it.

I honestly feel bad for them.

Big G its no surprise to me that one of the biggest snowflakes on IDO would complain that a birding society that puts out bird identification books would throw a fit and compare it to George Floyd. This isnt the gubment trying to get you into a cat suit and give you free tampons. Its a birding club sick of blue hairs and snowbeards acting exactly as you typically due. Complaining that their view should constantly be validated on who is historically correct and morally superior. There is that better than trying to use a little humor?

What’s worse? The people who get offended with bird names? Or the people who get offended when the other people get offended with the bird names?

I will go with option A.. Pretty simple question to answer and happy to help!

I understand people fed up with cancel culture and the weak people within it.

Word salad with a little name calling thrown in for good measure. Tell me you have no arguement without telling me you have no arguement. You got him this time!! Wow.

Im not even really sure we are having an argument. I believe that there are some people who have no real valuable knowledge but an excess of opinion. Sometimes I am that person. However I spent five minutes learning about the actual bird name changing thing about six months ago when the original story came out and realized its no big deal. But you have taken away the fun of saying booby and tit mouse so good on you for that.
