I bought a new boat last august with a hour meter on the big motor. If I keep fishing like I have been I will put on almost a 100 hours a season this year. Granted I did have the boat out till November this last year and was out in April of this year. How many hours a year do you guys put on your boats? I’m only talking motor run time not fishing time.

100 a season is pretty normal for someone that fishes a lot from ice out to ice up. The average boater/fisherman probably only does about 30-40 hours. Guides probably in the 200 range.
That’s been my experience anyways.
pool2foolInactiveSt. Paul, MNPosts: 1709July 17, 2017 at 2:16 pm #1704910No counter on mine, but I did try to keep track last year — fishing once or twice weekly from pool2 ice out to late November, plus family cruising/swimming trips, I came in around 80.
I used to run the merc 50 at 1-2mph against the current allll day. Added a bow-mount TM this year and I’m really only using the outboard to run between spots or cool off.
July 17, 2017 at 2:28 pm #1704912If I found the answer to the question it would be embarrasing It’s low enough some might question my sanity or my participation on a fishing site.
Pat has a pretty good estimate there. Hours on motor vs hours fished are often far apart.
July 17, 2017 at 2:41 pm #1704917Just under 350 last year and sitting at 237 hours this season. I pull cranks just about 100% of the time so my average speed runs 3-4 mph.
Retirement is great

barcSounds like you need a kicker! lol
tim hurleyPosts: 5825July 17, 2017 at 4:05 pm #1704947I got smashed last time I posted my tiller hrs so I’ll just say this, I ONLY had 37 hrs of run time on my motor last week. I’m trying not to use it as much
Yes maybe I should use my T8 kicker but frankly I hate it and I catch less fish with it so I don’t use it.
That said the local boat dealer said they average 10hrs a year on the boats they service.
July 17, 2017 at 4:26 pm #1704950I average 200 hours on a wheel boat and don’t troll with the big motor at all. But I’m on the water more than avg. person.
July 17, 2017 at 4:43 pm #1704952got 43 hrs on this year but use the minnkota and jig most of the time. when it works right anyway lol
Joe VellaPosts: 15July 17, 2017 at 4:44 pm #1704954I figure it’s like having a hot girlfriend.. When you have her your not gonna just stare at her! Same goes for a boat… so put the hours on it motors like to run! 2 strokes should go about 1500-2000 hours before blowing. If you maintain it and yes run it, it’ll treat you right. So yea just like a girlfriend!
July 17, 2017 at 4:59 pm #1704963Probably 200-400. It isn’t an average year.
Is that range too big
Milage per week is anywhere from 30-200

That’s a lot of WOT hours, dang! 90% of my hours are at idle.
nhammInactiveRobbinsdalePosts: 7348July 17, 2017 at 10:14 pm #1705065That’s alot of gas money a month Fishblood. Oil can add up to. All worth it though
July 17, 2017 at 10:22 pm #1705069I’m right around 55 hours so far on the season. I’d say I average 80-100 per year, but I do a considerable amount of trolling.
July 18, 2017 at 7:59 am #1705113I fish from early April till Mid November, average 200+ hours per season on a tiller. Without some kind of meter most exaggerate unknowingly on their usage.
July 18, 2017 at 8:52 am #1705123I am at about 175 hours of fishing time so far this year and I troll 85% of the time, so I am at about 148 hours of motor running time. I would say 75% of that is at idle(trolling) speed.
July 18, 2017 at 10:21 am #1705153I just take the boat out. I don’t think about the amount of time I spend in it. I do think about the great times and the not so great times I spend in it. I don’t get this self affirmation of the amount of time spent in a boat.
July 18, 2017 at 12:05 pm #1705191Just for reference, I asked the tech at a local shop awhile back and he felt 30/year is the average he sees. Look around at used boats and you will find it isn’t far off for a lot of “garage” boats. Clearly skewed for some guys on the water a lot.
A cool thing on my pickup is the ability to count the trailer miles. In 2 years I have 10k with it and 33k on the truck in total.
philtickelsonInactiveMahtomedi, MNPosts: 1678July 18, 2017 at 12:27 pm #1705204I’ve fished with Fishblood a lot, he talks a big game about hours and miles, but he normally just trailers his boat up river and lets it float down.
Or was that just the one time?
July 18, 2017 at 5:36 pm #1705288I have owned my boat for 13 years and the main motor has 235 hours on it. The kicker has a thousand and the electric probably has close to a 500. I guess that all averages out to about 133 hours a year.
July 18, 2017 at 5:47 pm #1705293I have averaged about 65 hours a year on my last 2 boats from 2004. Last year was only about 35 because of some health issues.

July 19, 2017 at 8:16 am #1705401I have a 2011 Ranger 620vs with a 250HO etec and I average 80 to 100 hours per year. I have 585 miles on it so far this year, and still have 4 more months to fish.
July 19, 2017 at 5:22 pm #1705551I don’t know how many hours I put on my boat an Alumnacraft 1448 MV the first year I had it but I know I went through a full gallon of oil mixed at 50:1. I work 8 hour days now rather than a 3 day 12 hour/day week so I am not in the boat as much
