That might work good for bunk trailers but roller trailers that’s not possible Jon unless you go in water.

I’ll eat my words on this one Jon. Had to do just what you mentioned today at the launch with the roller trailer. Sure makes a guy nervous all his knots are good watching the boat float off in current then catch.

Pool 2 had crap floating everywhere earlier, not to bad later in the day. Water temp 51. Not much for catching but the fall colors are freaking stunning out there!

Bigwerm and I spent three plus hours pulling leaves off crank baits on the upper part. Only three walleye, a chunky sauger and one smallie for our efforts.

The water is still fast in the channel, the fish we found were in slower water.

Spent a few hours throwing jigs at current seams yesterday. The water looks dirty, lots of weeds and mud and junk. Saw a telephone pole float by as well as a big section of dock. Right at sunset we popped a bunch of 20-22 inch fish as well as some small White Bass. Not the best night ever on the river but it was nice to be out there.

Water’s been like this on upper p2 for what now, 3 weeks? First it was the storms, add the falling leaves, It’s like an endless supply of debris coming downstream.

I didn’t mean it was a bad night, just that it wasn’t the best night I’ve had down there. On Pool 2 the expectation is always there of catching a bigger fish or two. It would have been great to find one of those thick Pool 2 heavyweights, but I can’t complain.

The best part about last night was getting out in the boat with an old friend of mine, a guy I did a lot of fishing with years ago. It was a lot of fun getting him on a jig bite and watching him catch a few Walleyes.

So if it sounded like I was complaining, that was wrong on my part. It was a good night lol

Those temps dropping 15 degrees in 3 hours explained why I froze me ass off! But it was still a good day on the water, thanks for letting me net your fish. toast

Catching a bunch of 24 to 26″ers with maybe a couple of bigger fish mixed in. This is pool 2 Steve is talking about.

I still haven’t experienced that pool 2 in 3 years of consistent fishing, but I’ve heard stories. After 3 years I feel like I’m scratching the surface. Have confidence with the upper pool, getting a nice low-mid-twenties fish here and there. I’m going to need to improve my vertical jigging and wingdam game to take the next step.

Spent a half hour or so casting at both hidden falls gates yesterday afternoon. Lower entrance near the bridge I picked up leaves on every single cast from multiple spots. Upper entrance near the boat ramp the water was more fishable, debris on maybe half my casts. Caught one pike pulling a jointed shad rap through the eddies.

Nice fish Steve. Hope the river didn’t many jigs from you. Unless you caught them on blades???

    Blades? LOL

No Jeff it was all on jigs. Now this may be superstition on my part, but it seems like the nights I catch fish I hardly ever lose a jig, and on nights when i don’t catch fish I lose a lot of jigs.

    Blades….

I’ve struggle my last two trips out on mid-Pool 2. I went out on Tuesday, November 14 and fished from about 3:30 – 8:00 p.m. and got blanked. I was hoping for a good bite at sunset but it never happened for me. The water temperature was about 37 F and the flow, although higher than typical for mid-November, wasn’t too high. Tried current seams, wing dams and some rip rap with plastics, blades, hair, and stick baits but couldn’t find anything. I was out the morning of November 5th and caught a couple at sunrise but then nothing for the next couple of hours. Hopefully it’s just me that’s struggled and I’ll find them next time out.

I was out this Monday 11/13 and was skunked as well, confluence to dam. Gonna give this coming Monday a shot with the warmer weather. They’re in there somewhere.

I’m going to try and get out one last time next week. When the bite is slow this time of year I do 2 things – 1) slow way down with all of my presentations and 2) move around a ton.

Last weekend on P4 it was a spot on a spot kinda bite. On that stretch of P2 there are a lot of spots on the spot so sometimes you only need to move a bit to get on a pile of fish.

The wind seemed to come up really strong around 12-1pm but the nasty stuff didn’t last all that long near my place in st paul.

Glad to hear someone’s catching, but if you only managed a few that means I’m probably in for a day of losing cranks and no fish. jester

If you were pulling those cranks, what speed and depth were you finding action today?

Found a few white bass slow trolling stick baits about 6 to 8 feet. less than a mile per hour. casting stickbaits over rocks towards evening found us some nice walleyes. Cant move those sticks slow enough.

This time of year you cannot fish the cranks too slow. If you are fishing a wingdam…. You honestly can put your rod in the rod holder and let it hang there. If you anchor on a long rope and use the trolling motor to slowly shift 10 ft in or out on the dam you and cover 20 ft of that dam. This may not seem like an effective way to cover a spot but it actually works good and gives you an idea how slow you can be with those baits.
