    Good morning to all-
I just found this forum, and it looks interesting. I hope you fellers won’t mind if a deep, deep South angler joins in the conversation.
I live and fish on the Gulf Coast of Alabama, but I fish all over the country from the Keys to Arizona and most places in between. My fishing is split between salt and fresh water and between my kayaks and my bay skiff.
I’m a retired public school teacher, and I write and shoot photos for several outdoor magazines,
I haven’t been able to get back to the water for a couple of weeks- between yardwork, home repairs, and heavy, heavy rain every day, fishing has been slow. I need to do something about that, I do believe.
I’m looking forward to meeting and talking with you fellers, and I hope to learn quite a lot from you all.

you all be safe and keep well- Ed

Welcome. Did you check out the “anyone here kayak fish” thread. It has a gulf connection. My wife and I spent a week in Gulf Shores on our way home from Florida last year. Can’t wait to get back and try some surf fishing and nearshore with my kayak.

    Stevenoak- good morning to you-

Gulf shores is about 20 miles south of me- I live up north Of I-10, but I spend a lot of time down on the coast fishing- there’s some fine fish to be caught down there. Good to meet you-

Welcome Ed! You have some fine fishing down there on those shores. I spent a week surf fishing the beaches down there last summer and had a blast! We will be back!

Ed, I hope you hang around. Come winter there is more discussion on here about options to escape the snow and cold. I for one plan to return to the Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana coast again before next summer. Maybe fall or after the spring break nonsense in the spring. Great to have inside info.

Stevenoak- I reckon as long as you fellers can stand to have me around, I’ll be here.
I have to warn you about winter down here. It can be rough, Last winter, we got down to about 28 degrees a couple of nights, and five years ago, it snowed! I’ve got photos of the snow which piled up on my orange trees- oranges look funny with snow on them, I’ll tell you. Of course, as soon as the sun came up, the snow melted and it was 70 degrees the next day.
It takes about 8 or 9 hours to get down here on the coast from St. Louis- depending on the traffic and fools in Memphis, so you could figure out a driving time from your location.
Truly, winter is pretty soft down here, and the fishing is quite good. I’d be proud to tell you fellers about it and even offer some advice for guides and places to stay.

you all be safe and keep well- Ed

Ed, you need to realize a lot of folks on here don’t see the other side of 28 degrees for several months.
We stayed on the bay side of Fort Morgan Peninsula in a VRBO house on the water. Next time I would like to find something more affordable. As I will likely be with brothers and a grandson, with most interest in fishing. I saw several spots I’d like to try. So, we will be hauling kayaks or surf fishing most days. No need to pay extra to have the water in the front yard.

    Good morning to all-
    Well, fellers and fellets-
I was going through my photo files looking for some Smoky Mountain trout photos for an article I’m working on, and I found this photo- I haven’t seen this shot for a while- almost forgot about it.
This is my best redfish- got her a couple of years ago over in Louisiana. she went something over 40 pounds.

    good fight, it was.
