How to turn off getting pinged when someone responds to a topic I started?

I remember turning this feature on, but can’t find where to turn it off.

If getting pinged means getting a notification, this can’t be turned off.

I would assume you remember turning on the option to get notified by email on each post. That is now an option on each new post. It defaults to no.

I haven’t checked the box on new topics for a while, yet I get notified on each response to the topic. Strange
