My new bow case and plastic tote I bought to haul my camo in both have a strong plastic smell. Any ideas on how to kill the scent? The bow case I have left open since I picked it up a month ago and still seems as strong as when I picked it up.

Do you have access to an Ozonics?

I ordered an aluminum bolt hood and a Boyds laminate stock to replace the plastic hood and plastic stock on my Tikka rifle…that both severly reduced the plastic smell and enhanced the looks.

But seriously, what you are probably smelling is not the plastic itself, but the mould release. Maybe scrubbing them out with hot soapy water would work.

Bury it in dirt for a couple weeks. The fastest way to get rid of an unnatural smell is too cover it up with a natural smell.

I’ve always used baking soda to get rid of bad smalls. Maybe buy one of the baking soda boxes made for your fridge/freezer and toss it in the case for a week or two and see if it improves the smell. Your only out $1 if it doesn’t work.

in all honesty though – I keep a few packs of baking soda in my gear box as well. You could try mixing lemon juice/baking powder into a paste, spreading it on, then rinsing it off in a few days? or get a bag of active carbon from an aquarium store.

take the foam out and wash it with Dawn Dish Soap. Then add a little cow manure as cover scent

I grabbed some baking soda last night to try. The bow case doesn’t concern me much but I would like to keep are camo as sent free as we can while camping over the weekends we bow hunt.

Keep your clothes in a very large ziplock bag and then put them in your tote.you can get those huge bags at menards.

With any new tree stand, ground blind, camo netting, hunting chair and basically anything I plan on leaving in the woods for deer hunting I like to open them up and stake them down in my back yard. Then I just wait for the wind and rain to beat the crap out of them for a couple weeks to get the new smell out before I bring them in the woods and set them up in a location.
