How to get a LX9 or LX7 to read from 0 to 6 feet?

Is there a trick to get these to read above 6 feet of water? I have 2 LX7’S and 1 LX9 and none of them will read above 6 feet. They work awesome below but not above. Also my LX9 works great in deap depths but it seams like when I’m around 15 feet and jigging high I can’t see my jig. The LX 7’s are around 5 to 7 sensitivity and the 9 never has to be above 2 and yes I have tried turning up the sensitivity and it doesn’t help.

Did you try leaving your transducer towards the top of the hole?

Didn’t try the top of the hole. I’ll try that. I didn’t think open water mode would work. I’ll try that to.

You shouldn’t have any issues seeing a bait 2 feet below the ice with the units referenced.

    Use the 20 degree transducer.

Put youp transducer in the center of the hole.

Raise the transducer up into the hole as far as you can until you start to see interference or lose your bottom return or it starts to degrade.

I’ve tried all the suggestions above and cannot get mine to read anything less than 5 feet. I sure wish I could though…..

The 7 and the 9 don’t run the same software so your settings won’t be the same across platforms. Personally I liked it when the 9 had a more adjustable gain curve in previous software versions.

Exactly like James said… Transducer as far up as possible and center of the hole is what you’ll need to do.

I have a buddy that is using the LX6 and I downloaded the most recent version and he swears by the open water mode.. He says he will toss the 5 aside and run the 7 !!

Why in the heck would the 7 and 9 run different software, as far as the stuff that pertains to the sonar functioning? That makes no sense at all. Not happy to hear that. I started with a 7 and now have it a converted lx9. Looks like I lost that larger gain curve in the process. Kind of sucks. I’m going to use the lx9 next weekend for the first time .
