How to Get a Baby Girl's Blades to Spin?

I’m a novice musky guy – 2 or 3 days a year. I’m fishing these baits on a 8ft St Croix musky rod, with braid, and give them a hard snap(s) right when they hit the water and continuing to snap until I feel the blades start turning. The problem is I feel like I’m wasting 1/2 my casts about 1/2 the time – a big problem. Its not just a single bait either, they all do it. Am I doing something wrong? Anybody ever just cut one blade off? Is there an easy fix? Thanks for the help.

The eye of the blade or the eye of the bait? A 70 to 80 degree bend in the blade seems quite extreme. I’ve never seen any spinning blade made with such a bend. Can you post a photo of one you have altered in this manner? I’m just not picturing what you mean.

I have never used a baby girl but things have worked on other bucktails where blase don’t start like they should
If the clevises that hold the blades are not in a U shape they can cause problems.
Another thought give it a tiny amount of time to sink enough so that the blades are completely under water.

Feathers answer may be the real problem.
