Dylan, practice working on your fishing reports in the forum that best fits. I’m not sure of your age, but practicing fishing/hunting gear ect reporting in these forums along with taking classes in journalism is a great start.
I’m still working on my spelling and gave up on proper use of English long ago. About the only thing I did right in school was to take 6 months of typing (and I did that because of the girls).
Now you might ask why does writing have anything to do with being on the Ido crew.
It’s pretty hard for a person to be the fisherman all the time. Camera and composing/writing skills will help the person with a hankering to be on any fishing crew very very much.
A perfect example is Ben above. Although I’ve “heard” he’s not very good at keeping holes cleared of ice, he makes up for it in his camera, editing, writing and moderating skills. He’s pretty good at clearing paths through waist deep snow as well I hear.
If you’re more interested in becoming the best fisherman on earth, then I would recommend start looking at tourney fishing. Ice is good, no boat needed. Or there’s plenty of open water tourneys where a person can hook up with someone that has a boat. I’m not talking about the big tourneys. Start with the small ones. Don’t expect to win. That should be your last ultimate goal. Expect to learn from each person you fish with.
But either way you want to go, let your passion of fishing drive your learning in high school or college. That’s my 02 cents.
