Ok a little early but I’m amazed at how many people have there docks out already. I put mine away usually around the middle of October by then my hands can’t take the cold even with good gloves on depends on the weather to if it looks cold and cruddy I put it away. Used to wait until ice up but to many broken parts on motors and trailers for that. just wondering how many true diehards go to the end I know I few do but is it really that worth it.

As long as there’s open water, the boat is ready. I usually use it til sometime in January. Then it is usually back out by early April. I don’t winterize of or fog the engine.

Last February was the only month in several years I haven’t been in the water in MN. Some great fishing to be had when many boats are in shrink wrap.

Same here. I have the river in front of my house but most times the landing gets locked up November and I can find fish through the ice. waytogo

Usually around Halloween for my main boat. Have a kayak and a buddy has a 14 tin boat with a 6hp if I really feel like hitting the water.

From my understanding many of you live by rivers?

Closest ramp is 6 tenths of a mile away from my driveway. I’ll bring a spud bar and some sand if needed.

Mine goes to it’s winter resting place in the pole barn after labor day weekend. Then it’s time to climb a tree. The duck boat does stay out until December though and I can and have fished out of that.

NEVER winterized my boat. Though Mother Nature may be brutal and play sick jokes on me, its ready to go all the time

Not counting a typical last ditch effort in late sept/October, generally Labor Day is mostly the end for me. Fall is too short and I want to get some hunting in. Counting deer, there are only 8-9 good weekends available in fall. Lose a couple to weather, and the season passes too quick!

I have mine ready to go until the lakes I walleye fish ice over (and look to stay iced over). Usually it is late November. Last year I was able to ice fish on a small lake about 2hrs north of me in mid-Nov, then had the boat out on a bigger lake the following weekend but that was it

Mine gets put away about May 15th for the summer season. (summers for racing ) ) I got it out and put it thru its paces last weekend, making sure everything is ready to go for winter fishing. My opening weekend typically is Thanksgiving, and it goes thru mid May.. Unconventional, I know.

I’m hoping for a nice long fall and not putting the boat away until after Thanksgiving. Haven’t got into river fishing yet.

Mine sits as much in the middle of summer as much it does in the winter. I should consider summerizing it. roll

I’m in my boat almost every single weekend May – Sept. However, once hunting season comes the switch gets flipped. I have hunting on the brain right now and am considering putting the (big) boat away soon. If I was retired or something, I would definitely make time for both, but with a young family and a job it’s kind of one or the other.

Almost done with my scissor blind on my new 14′ jon boat and will be back after ducks again soon.

MrPike1973, a lot of people that remove their docks this time of year aren’t the fishing type. They are recreational people. The water is getting too cold for them to use anymore.

I admire the amount of people on this thread that continue to use their boats basically into the winter months on rivers and such. That’s dedication. I’m not one of those people. I don’t store my boat at home either in the winter so I have to get it into a storage facility sometime in October, and that includes getting it winterized before hand. And since I do a significant amount of hunting from mid-October through December, there’s really no reason to keep it available for use anyways. Given the choice between fishing a river and ice fishing, I would select the river in a boat every time if I had the opportunity to do so.

My boat wouldn’t get winterized until mid Oct but she see it’s last use once hunting season starts…usually mid sept.

we fish usually a few times thanksgiving weekend. occasionally on warm early winters sometimes into December. And we usually average a few 1 or 2 trips on the river in February. Lets just say i don’t have to really do any winterization.
