My friend bought a Legend Icehouse with a spear hole in it.

We would like like get into spearing but never did it.

I see 406 Spears on FB and their spears are in the $225 range. Yikes!

Is that expensive or normal for spears?

Also, I see this “Hole Halo” device which you put down the Hole for contrast from the bottom. Seems like a good idea. It is $44. Is it a necessary item?

    https://406spears.com/ols/products/hole-halo-spearing-dropdown

What are good prices and places to get spears?

Any other items you’d need? What are the best value priced decoys?

Google it. Scheels has the Lakco spear for $74.99. Don’t forget to add a rope. )

here is my opinion, both the 406 spear and the lakco spears have to much flat metal on them. and i wouldnt pay $225 for it. i’d bet you could get the stainless Amish spear for that. all that extra flat metal is going to do is make the spear curve or sail off course.

to be honest i havent looked at the price of spears lately, but dont go cheap. and for the money i’d get the Amish spear, you wont regret it. i love mine. and you dont really need the stainless one either.

as far as that hole drop down……..i wouldnt buy it. i save egg shells, dry them out crush them and send them down. NOW before anyone gets all bent about littering, and depending who you ask, as long as its biodegradable its supposed to be ok. no game warden ever said i couldnt. IF you got good clear water you dont need nothing to bring up the bottom.

as far as a decoy………i’d get a bear creek red and white……it looks like a little pike…….by far my most productive.

    hope that helps!!!

There a bit heavier is about all I know. Stainless is obviously a better metal, just so happens I welded stainless for 28 years waytogo toast

Either one throws pretty true and if a pike would happen to get off it won’t be the spear it’ll be where you hit it.

If you may regret not getting the stainless one right away go for it and get the stainless one. They come with a good rope and a nice guard for the prongs!

So, the only benefit of stainless is that it is heavier and may throw truer?

i have never had an issue with my non stainless spear not throwing true.

the stainless one looks prettier then the non stainless one is about all i can see for a difference, that and the price tag!!!!

Nope no rust. Here is the business end of my Amish style spear. And it’s 20 years old. That gizmo next to it is a fishtoys ice saw

I purchased just the spear head and completed the build myself. Carved a couple decoys to use also.

Out of those three, the red/white is the best producer. I also have some perch colored ones that are carved with a different body style, that work well.
