3.5” in Nevis, much needed!!!My parents said they had 5inches by Nevis.
That’s very possible it was a torrential downpour, couldn’t even see across the lake. We had 3.5″ in a rain gauge and 4.25″ in a bucket.
August 23, 2021 at 10:01 am #2056048Only 4/10th of a inch here in the Saint Cloud area. It was not much, but I’ll take anything we can get. It looks like at least some of the state saw some much needed larger amounts. Sadly it will be much to late for a lot of farmers. The corn that is not irrigated in this area looks terrible. Beans not much better.
August 23, 2021 at 12:16 pm #2056081had a 1/4 inch last night again……..hopefully looks like more on the way……….
ThunderLund78Posts: 2668August 23, 2021 at 12:27 pm #20560871″ between the hours of 8:00-10:00 last night in the far south metro ex-urbs
My lawn has weathered the drought fairly well but basically stopped growing with some brown patches. Since we’ve gotten a little more rain over the last week or two it definitely could use a cut, but I think I’m going to let it “plump” up a little more for its overall health.
August 23, 2021 at 12:34 pm #2056088I missed most of the report but they were saying something about the river in St. Cloud being to low for the power plant to work?

Yes. They shut down the power plant at the dam there last week because the water is too low to make the turbines move for power generation. First time since 1988.

I usually like hot and dry summers but even I’m ready for some good rain. Need something to get the fish going on P2 again!!!

August 24, 2021 at 9:21 am #2056284Got over an inch this morning along with a LOT of wind in the White Bear Lake area.
ThunderLund78Posts: 2668August 24, 2021 at 9:22 am #20562854″ in New Prague as of 9:20 am and it looks like another line of rain is working its way toward us before it’s done.
Really hope they’re getting a little of this up north in the fire area. Looks like just showers, though.
August 24, 2021 at 3:20 pm #20564001.5 inches in Crystal. Only 11 more inches until we get out of this drought.
August 24, 2021 at 5:01 pm #2056432Finally got a good rain early this morning. Got .4 yesterday and another 1.7 this morning. Was great to see. Figures that now that it is to late for farmers and Lawns. I’ll take it though because the lakes around here really need it. Hope we get a ton more !!!
Brad DimondPosts: 1486August 24, 2021 at 5:57 pm #2056444Anyone know how much rain we would need before winter to get us back to “normal” levels?

atone point about 2-3 weeks ago I thought I heard 15 inches ???
August 24, 2021 at 6:53 pm #2056454Anyone know how much rain we would need before winter to get us back to “normal” levels?
About 12 inches, give or take. And it can’t all come in one or two big rain events either. A couple big rains will help with the lake and river levels but we need about an inch per week for the next few months to get out of the current drought so the ground can soak it all up slowly.
August 24, 2021 at 7:11 pm #2056456Very little here in Cloquet/Duluth area
Had terrible smoke here this AM. Swear I could have cold smoked some cheese outside with how thick it was when I left for work.Greenwood fire doubled in size yesterday/last night. Definitely some structure loss occurred up there. They had to pull crews with the intense conditions yesterday afternoon. Props and thoughts/prayers for all the folks fighting this one. Some video posted online was unreel.
The rain seems to get near here and just dissipates into thin air. Lake Superior will do that with east winds but I think things up here are so dry it just evaporates in the atmosphere.
Even if we do get the @2 inches they are saying between Thursday and Monday it really won’t do a lot at this point.

they talked about this on the news last night………your close according to them. up in the northern part of the state they said about 12 inches most other areas 10!!!!!!! according to the climatologist they interviewed anyway!!!!!!

Drought takes time. Getting out of it takes time too. Its not instantaneous in either direction. We need a prolonged period of wet weather, not 2 big rain events.
But like I said earlier, a couple big rain events will certainly help with lake and river levels as they are extremely low at this time.
Here is the projected output Thurs-Sun. A monsoon may be coming.

ThunderLund78Posts: 2668August 25, 2021 at 9:39 am #2056546Looks good for the fire-ravaged areas, at least. I really wish the Rainy River Drainage would get more but that’s just so we don’t have to constantly be worried about our Lower-ends on our upcoming Sturgeon trip
