What would be a fair price for a 16′ deep v aluminum boat paint job be? My boat is 22 years old this year and after many camping trips shes a bit rough on the outside. Some may recall I completely rebuilt the inside a few years ago. I had a local guy give a rough quote of 2-3k. This is basically from the gunwale down. Anybody have knowledge to share?

I restored a Lund Pike 16 about 5 years ago. I visited about 10 local bodyshops with pictures in hand. Was looking for paint inside and outside from gunnel to chime. I got anywhere 800 to 5000 to I don’t do boats…

I picked a shop I was familiar with, and left it with them for a month so he could use it as Friday afternoon filler. At the end of the week after ALL the body work was done he would pull it out and work on it. Keep his shop busy.

There was no body filler, if there were dents they became shinny dents. Just prep and paint. His bill was a little over $1000 and the gob was done time and material not estimate. Being T&M I took all the risk…

    Some pictures… I applied the graphic…

Check around and see if there is a vo-tech around. Let the kids do it. They will be under the supervision of the instructor so it should be done right. Plus it helps the next wave of body shop people.

I also see where people are just wrapping the whole hull. That way you can choose style of graphics and everything gets done at one time.

Like dutchboy mentioned I would look into a wrap. I have priced them out for my Jon and they have been 700-900 with a design installed.

Your price quote seems about right. I had my 19′ painted inside and out a few years ago. Outside was around $3,500 and inside was another $2,500. My research has shown that wraps are generally 1/2 to 1/3 the price of paint. Everyone I know with a wrap hand loads their boat on the trailer. I’m afraid that if I went with the wrap it would look like crap in one season.

$850 to have my 20′ aluminum wrapped, 32″ sides when it was still pretty much new. When I go to sell it if it looks like crap from docks and banging against logs on the river bank I’ll just have the wrap taken off to factory paint, do another one, or take that off the price for the new owner to put on whatever they want.

my son is in autobody. I had him look in to painting my 1600 Lund pro sport.
he said it would be $1000 just in paint. I was just going to paint the outside.
That was using the same paint Lund I don’t know what kind of paint they use.
It’s not ppg like his shop.

Have seen some really cool wraps on boats on the lake.

I got a bid to repaint with minimal dent repair in 2016. They couldn’t replace the vinyl graphics and would paint it to look like a 2016 Raptor 1750. The bid was over $6000. I thought it was rather expensive, but insurance didn’t bat an eye at the cost.

I painted the inside and outside and added a flat floor between the front and back bench seats.
Cost of paint and materials $ 200
