I plan to test the new skid house in this cold. Yes, you can catch them from the couch.

Your Supervisor says you are doing it wrong. You need to do it from the bed.

We are gonna be out on the big pond warm and cozy in the castle. Hopefully they will bite!

We will have a group of a few houses out on Winnie. It’s always nice to know you’ve got help in case something DOES go wrong when it is this cold.

Sure!! Just for a 3 minute smoke though.. It’s not the temps I’m concerned about. It’ll be that dang wind that isn’t going to let up that’ll bite the most.

I’ll tell you one thing. I’d rather fish outside in cold weather than sit at home and watch the stupid bowl. I’ll be outside this weekend as long as it takes to get on some fish and then I’ll set up shop and hunker down in the shack.

    whistling

I’ll be doing it some…..but not all day lol

A few winters ago we were on Crow in Ontario. Fished outside all day in -20 to -25

It actually wasn’t too bad. We’d hole hop and fish different spots all day. Getting your hands wet was the only bad thing….

We had to be quick with the fish too, they would get ice growing on them in seconds

    I won’t be fishing.

It isn’t as much a product of the cold as much as it is the lethargic fish following a giant cold front and weather change. We are into what I think of as the “dog days” of winter where ice is thick, oxygen is lower in the water, fish are lethargic, pressure and traffic is high, etc. The weather as a factor counting against the bite (potentially) is the icing on the cake. There are obvious exceptions and I’m sure people will be catching fish, but I’ll save an outing for a better opportunity.

I’ll be home working on some honey-to-do items along with my own projects looking forward to late late ice when the trucks, wheelers, and chaos are gone and the bite is substantially better.

Like I said I work out in it. It doesn’t take balls to be in the cold. Takes a little dedication. I have a feeling I might be with grubson, running and gunning like normal. Hunker when we are on them and then keep searching.

You bet my friend. That big otter will be a nice refuge to warm up in. Just need to decide where to go. I have some ideas. Give me a ring tonight.

Sunday is our only opportunity and I’m leaving it up to the kid. It’s his first weekend day off in some time and he’s been looking forward to spending most of it fishing. No shack for us, so we’ll park close to shore, sit on the buckets until we need to go warm up in the car. Sat overnight low – weather.com -18F, accuweather -5F. Hoping the later is correct.

I’m looking forward to getting out this weekend. Gonna put another beat down on the fish, or least certainly give it my best.

What’s your definition of cold ?
    Saturday per Sven it’s a High of -6 & Low of -22

    #2012059

I am going ice fishing for some pike Saturday Morning. It looks like a cold one, but I will go out in cold weather no matter what to catch some fish. I will be fishing a shallow tributary river that connects to a bigger river. The bigger river isn’t frozen, but the smaller one is and it holds some pike! Set a few tip-ups and go jigging.

in my younger years i never thought twice about fishing when its this cold, BUT, nowadays that i’m a bit more educated, looking back at all the things that did or can happen it isnt worth it for me anymore. things break, dont work or start, to many things can go wrong and can be dangerous.

i can wait till this cold snap breaks!!!!!
