I probably don’t check or watch them as much as I once did. But its still fun to pull one up once in awhile and check it out. There has been some cool footage lately with all the snow. Its way cool to see them all covered in so much snow that you cant even tell what it is until they pop up and shake all the snow off of them. It crazy at times to believe its even possibly the Eggs survive to hatch with some of the crazy weather they go through. I also like to watch all the various things that get brought back to the nest to feed the young. Because so many schools follow the activity on the camera’s they have to turn off the Feed from time to time when various domestic pets end up being brought back to the nest. Even though that is really sad to see – That is truly survival at its finest. Its crazy to see how many different things they bring back as food. They are truly amazing creatures and I can see why they were chosen as the US national bird. If you have never check out one of the cameras – Do so. They are a ton of them online to watch. The Decorah North and the Minnesota DNR are my favorites.

Thank you for the reminder! I’ve been slacking this year and haven’t checked in on one yet. Just pulled up the Minnesota DNR one and will be going back and watching some of the highlights. Last year, We had just started WFH quarantine for my job and there were a lot of unknowns and anxiety about work, etc. Having the cam up on one of my screens was a lifesaver; brought some much needed peace and calmness to my days.
Can someone remind me where about the nest is? I assume the Mississippi Valley somewhere? I can hear what sounds like occasional traffic and train whistles going by so maybe off HWY 61? I also just heard turkeys talking.
Should only be a few days to go before we have chicks.

The first baby eagle hatched on Friday, March 26 around 1:25 p.m. The second baby eagle hatched on Sunday March 28 around 3:20 p.m. Tune in and watch them grow!”
They are adorable!
April 19, 2021 at 9:41 am #2030627Its amazing how fast they Grow. I guess it should not be surprising with the diet they eat. I still can’t believe some of the weather those eggs survive through.

I’ve heard that it’s somewhat rare for both chicks to survive through the fledgling stage. The older they get the more food they need and the stronger eaglet often kills the sibling so they don’t have to compete for food. Sometimes nature sucks, but by having two it greatly improves the odds of survival for one of the chicks. Plus it helps develop aggressive behavior needed as an adult when finding food.

It’s crazy when I was a kid you only saw them up in Northern MN and even that was relatively rare. Now they are everywhere. Beautiful to see. My wife rescued a small dog this winter and I told her to make sure she has him in on the leash when she takes him out. She rarely does. Well, I just sent her that pic and she said “Don’t take Oliver out!!!!” LOL

If its a small dog she better watch out for it. It would not be the first small dog that I’ve seen show up on camera in a nest on a eagle cam – Watch out Oliver or you may be next !!!
CaptainMuskyPosts: 22524April 19, 2021 at 1:48 pm #2030733I think it was someone on this site that had a nest either in their yard or near them that the tree came down in a storm and they found it full of dog and cat collars. I have a video of one of my “pet” eagles grabbing a rabbit I shot and put in the field for it last Fall. The trail camera I set up didnt work and I caught it with my cell phone. I had literally put it out there not more than 5 minutes before. Not sure where they come from, but they obviously can see me put stuff out for them.
