Last Event of the year starts today. Last I checked all the midwest Guys were in the top 10. That’s a great start. It looks like all Seth needs to do to wrap up the AOY title is to make the top 45 cut after tomorrow. so far that’s looking like its going to happen. Another BIG SM tourney. I really like the events on SM waters.

Not sure. It does seem strange. They have for the last few years I believe
July 16, 2021 at 12:26 pm #2048640Its been fun watching the coverage for this tourney. Its exciting watching the excitement that Seth is showing as he’s wrapped up the AOY title. You have to cheer for a guy who loves what he’s doing and is not shy with showing his emotions. It was hard to watch him lose 4 nice fish early on yesterday ( Two that he had in his hand ) But was fun to see him recover and the excitement he had when he finally realized that the AOY title was most likely his. After today I hope he just goes out and fishes for the win. That is if he’s in any shape to even get up and fish in the morning. He said there may be a late night celebration going on tonight.
July 16, 2021 at 12:33 pm #2048642I think they said something about going to the bowling alley to celebrate tonight. lol! I’ve checked in to live here and there and its fun watching those top 3 battle it out shallow. That sight fishing looks like a riot.
July 16, 2021 at 1:04 pm #2048652Feider’s story is a good one. I can remember in 2015 with 2 events remaining (LaCrosse and Mille Lacs) he was not yet eligible for AOY at Mille Lacs as only the top half on tour can compete in that. He needed a top 5 finish at LaCrosse to make it to Mille Lacs. He knew he could win at Mille Lacs if he only qualified for it. I think he got second at LaCrosse and then destroyed everyone at Mille Lacs.
I can recall an interview he had earlier that season in 2015. By his own admission he was burned out, frustrated with his results, and spending too much of his own personal money trying to compete on the Elites. He was going to hang it up for good if didn’t qualify for the AOY at Mille Lacs that season. He sure has turned his career around since that point. Now, if he would just get a haircut.

Bassmaster had a good interview with him a couple years ago about this.
https://www.bassmaster.com/inside-bassmaster-podcast/podcast-seth-feider-storyNo way he’s cutting his hair. That would be cutting his brand too.
July 19, 2021 at 4:44 pm #2049286Man, Taku Ito’s victory speech and entire compilation of weigh in interviews was hilarious. Pretty crazy story too. One helluva final day! Especially for a guy that has only been fishing smallmouth for 3 years! Glad I had him on my fantasy roster this week!

I really hope that doesn’t happen

LOL I know he’s not going to because its part of his image and mojo. I’m just against guys having long, flowing hair in general aka “hockey hair” lol.
July 20, 2021 at 10:44 am #2049389What a Great ending to a Great BASS season. I could not be happier for both Seth on the AOY and for TAKU on the win. You have to cheer for and love a guy like Taku. A guy who had a dream and went out and chased it. It was way funny to see him try and lift that trophy over his head. I thought for sure he was going to drop it. I think Mercer thought he was Joking when he said he would need his Help. I still think BASS is the greatest organization out there. The whole MLF thing is just not for me.

Completely agree. MLF makes for a great edited tv show. It is brutal most times for live coverage.
February 16, 2023 at 9:59 am #2182249Today is the 1st BASS Event of the year down on Okeechobee. Right now Scott Martin is putting a beatdown on them. Unlike his major meltdown on a event last year where he could not keep anything hooked up, this time he’s doing a good job of keeping them hooked. The local boys seem to be off to a rather show start. Hopefully they can get it going at some point today.

Yep. Forward facing sonar ( FFS ) is going to be a major factor in all the events this season. Not normally as big in the early shallow events but some are finding ways for it to help them even in shallow water.
February 16, 2023 at 1:47 pm #2182334Anyone notice how long some of those flipping rods are that these guys are fishing. Some of them must be 8.5 – 10Ft long. At least they look really long to me. Curious what length rods most here use for flipping. Mine is a 7’3″

It seems they use longer rods every year. I personally like a shorter rod for flipping and pitching.
My favorite is a 6’10” MH fast action st croix mojo.
I see a lot of guys running broomstick like heavy action rods too but I haven’t seen the need in my experiences.Michael BestPosts: 1233February 16, 2023 at 10:20 pm #2182428I have always used a 7’6” flipping stick.
However St Croix has a 7’10” that looks appealing. My dad uses a 7’ plus musky rods. He feels he needs a broom handle for getting fish out of reeds.
February 17, 2023 at 8:30 am #2182460Decent day for 3 of the local anglers on day 1. The other 2 bombed.
Downey – 17th
Przkurat – 18th
Douglas – 19th
Feider – 84th (ouch)
Felix – 88th (double ouch)brandmoneyPosts: 282February 17, 2023 at 6:52 pm #2182584Decent day for 3 of the local anglers on day 1. The other 2 bombed.

All this is doing is making me want to go get my boat and drive straight south until I hit open water so I can start fishing shoreline for largies.
February 17, 2023 at 8:58 pm #2182614You forgot about two other Cheddarheads.
Pat Schlapper in 37th, and rookie Kyle Norsetter out of the Madison Area didn’t make the cut in 71st.February 20, 2023 at 9:41 am #2182953Kind of a crazy first tourney of the year. There was some big weight swings from day to day by lots of the top guys. I was really cheering for Steve Kennedy. His bite just feel apart on the final day. He seems like a great Guy and it would have been nice to see him get the win. I was also cheering for Brandon Card. He’s had some rough luck with medical issues earlier this year ( Meningitis and Bell’s Palsy ) He did not even know if he would be able to fish this year at all and really doubted he would fish the 1st event. It was great to see him fish through the medical issue and do well. Not a real great tourney for most of the local guys. Przkurat ( 17th ) and Schlapper ( 26th ) ended up the best. The rest were all between 54th and 83rd. They have some catch up to do in the next event starting on Thur. at lake Seminole
February 20, 2023 at 11:07 am #2182984Was an entertaining event for sure. I too am a fan of Kennedy. Didn’t pick him, but was rooting for him on the final day. Interest how Rivet found his bite. Apparently was using livescope to find crappies during practice and stumbled on his fish in the river (at least I think that was the story). Didn’t sound like anybody else was doing what he was doing.

Ya he was in need of something for dinner and someone told him of a good Crappie bite up the river. He went there to catch a meal and while there he noticed some larger fish on his Livescope. He decided to make a few cast with a crankbait and found out they were some nice bass. I believe he caught all his keeper fish from the River. He also had it all to himself.

A different leader each day.
I thought when the local Scott Martin had his first morning flurry he was going to run away with it.Not sure if other guys were throwing a jerk bait at all. Rivet was in the river.

That’s pretty remarkable. Targeting crappies and stumbles into a nice pod of bass.

I thought when the local Scott Martin had his first morning flurry he was going to run away with it.He did the same thing last year and crapped it away too. I think he forgets he’s fishing against 100 other pros and not just doing a fishing show. There was no way that little spot he was in all week was going to hold up.
This is why I like the early season FL derbies. They go back and forth like crazy.
February 23, 2023 at 1:17 pm #2184072With the weather I took the day off from work. After blowing my and 3 neighbors driveways I decided to relax a little and watch some BASS coverage of this weeks tourney. While watching I saw something I’ve never seen before. A fishermen ( Drew Benton I believe ) sprayed something all over the surface with a super soaker squirt gun. I had no idea what it was. I posted the question on the Minnesota Bassheads Facebook page. The responses say it is soap. They spray it on the surface and it pushes the algae and other weeds away and makes it easier to see bedding fish. That’s a new one for me. I asked if it was even legal and the responders said it was. I’d think the local DNR would not be real happy with that practice.
