Well very cold weekend. Friday the fish really turned on and slammed them but what a cold walk back. Today went with the bride not many out even with wheel houses did OK but then got a good flurry of activity. Out about 5 hours even with good boots and toe warmers feet got chilled the holes kept icing over and wife said no more so went home. The automatic rear door quit working on the car. The transducer cords were problematic freezing in but all in all not bad. When we packed up it was quick. Hoping to go tomorrow again.

First trip out this year and got to break in the new flipover with a limit of perch today. I might say some of the best perchin I’ve had in a long time. Scouting late fall payed off big, should do it more often.

I fished Leech Lake four evenings in a row through the cold and snow. It wasnt very good. Fried a mess of perch and cisco on the ice. A couple pike, a burbot, and one walleye. Usually that area produced right at dark. Not so much lately.

cold don’t bother me much but it sure is hard on equipment etc. i tried to think like a fish and went friday just before the front and it was slow for me in the backwaters of P4. marked fish non stop up until sundown but lots of lookers. 95% gills where i was and they wanted nothing to do with anything. stay warm, it’s frigid out there!

Only got to -22 in Richmond this morning, dead calm so it wasn’t terrible fishing. 4 eyes and 2 pike

These cold days are great for trout too!

The biggest issue I have with fishing in these bitter temps is stuff tends to break really easy and a simple fishing trip can get real expensive fast! I’ve seen numerous heaters go, trucks/snowmobiles not start, axels break on trailers, transmission lines break on trucks, fish house windows crack and break. The list is endless. But once I get to my spot and set up, temps don’t really matter because I’m usually a sweaty mess anyway.

Bingo. Just ain’t worth it IMO
