OK, now that I know you think you’re a stud…How long is your limit for eating pizza left out on the counter top? I’ve often wondered at what point does pizza turn into something dangerous.

4 hours but will be less if I know someone vomited or pooped on it.

It’s been a decade since I took a food safety class…but here is the rule of thumb.

Potentially hazardous food that stays in the temperature “danger zone”, 40-140 °F (4-60 °C), for more than 2 hours should be discarded. Potentially hazardous foods are those foods that spoil most easily, such as unshelled eggs, raw meats, fish, shell fish, dairy products, almost all cooked foods.

6 to 8. Depends on what kind it is. Some taste better than others after sitting out.

I often wonder about the high acidic level in the tomato sauce and the fat and salt in the cheese and meats somehow “preserve” the pizza making it last a little longer than other foods. Another reason it’s a treason to put veggies on your pizza. hah!

Psh! C’mon guys! I thought there were some balls in MN! I’ve eaten old counter pizza that’s been out 2 days before! It’s good for your guts! I’ll even nom brats and other random stuff left out overnight. D

lol! I’m not too proud to admit I may have crossed that 2 day threshold myself a time or two myself. But generally, I will eat it without thinking after a day or so. Longer than that, it comes down to hunger vs. OGOH (Other groceries on hand). If OGOH = 0 and Hunger = High, I will take the risk of IBS IF my TP levels are adequate.

For me it’s a few hours of sitting out. I had a buddy in college that would leave pizza or any food our for days sometimes a week or more. He’d get hungry open up the random pizza box on the floor and if there was no mold/a little mold on it, it went down the hatch. I have no clue how he never got sick.

lol – if the guts can’t handle it, then at least I’ll have some quiet reading time in the bathroom for an afternoon )

This time of year here at work, if I don’t get the first piece I wouldn’t touch it with a ten foot stick!
