How is a Helix 10 G3 better than G2

Was happy that HB upgraded my unit when I sent it in for repairs just wondering how the new generation will improve things. I know I can go on the site and get some blah blah blah from HB-but would rather hear from real people on this site. Now will I be able to use it this year?
    Thanks

The G3’s have Mega Imaging if you’re looking at the DI or SI versions. It’s a “clearer” picture on both. I would imagine there are some other features that separate the two units but that’s the big one.

I have a G2 SI and a G3N CHIRP which is just the 2d. The “N” in the name just means it can be networked to another unit or trolling motor.

Thanks 14-course my transducer is the same-still clearer? Hope to get out one more time weather does not look good for it though (or for ice making, uuurgh!)

Great question Tim. I would be interested as well as I’m thinking of upgrading my lowrance HDS 12 touch g2 as I think the SI detail is nothing compared to HB.

ok I have a Helix 10 SI GPS. I know it is not the G3 Mega but how do I tell if it is a G1 or G2?

The g2 helix 9,10 & 12 si has mega side and down imaging.

The g3 just gives you a better mega picture out wider and a little deeper.
The g2n mega units kinda struggle to get a good mega reading On the side imaging In anything deeper then what I’ve found to be 33ft, Then you have to switch frequency to 800.
The g3 also extends further to each side on the side imaging then the g2.

Ah you’re right. Forgot they went back and added “mega” to the newer G2 units last year when the G3’s came out. Personally I think they just labeled it on the box and didn’t change anything.

Eyeguy, It should say on the unit G2 or G3. If it’s a Gen 1 it most likely just says Helix…..

They didn’t go back and re-label any box’s mega that’s just rediculous…. the helix g2n was the first mega units out. I’ve owned the 10 g2n MEGA side and down image unit for 3 years…..

Glad they upgraded me, but for what I do I would not pay to go from G2 to G3.
Thanks for all the great feedback. Now, do I want to launch and load in the snow or am I done?

From what I can tell $500 seems to be the main difference between the two.

I was being kind of sarcastic. However I didn’t realize the larger G2N’s had the Mega. I have a 7 G2n and it doesn’t have it so I thought the whole line didn’t.

Got my Bird back-If I go Sunday I will not have time to change out the transducer, do I need to? Would I eventually want to?
