How do you vote?

I enjoy voting in person. But this year since I’m reintroducing myself to bow hunting, the prime rut in our area is around that day. That, and this Covid had me this time vote absentee.

My precinct is mail in only this year. I was mailed a ballot automatically and turned it in at the court house.

I voted today in person at my city hall. The process involves filling out a request form and then you vote just like normal. Very easy. COVID or no COVID, it was so much better than waiting in a line. Not sure why anyone would think it’s a bad thing.

I’ll be voting outside my assigned local polling place on November 3rd most likely.

I’ve yet to wear a mask once and I’m not going to start on election day. I saw on the news they legally can’t stop you from voting so if you refuse to wear a mask they have to bring you your ballot outside the building to fill out and then place in a drop box.

So those are my expectations going in. I’ll start off by telling them I have a medical exemption and then give them the HIPAA line if they ask what it is. Then tell them the actual reason, I have allergies—–like being allergic to bullshjt.

Trying the mail-in thing this year. I don’t like lines and crowds much and I’ve also got a 12-hour workday that day for me. The last thing I want to do is work 12 hours and then find myself waiting in line for another hour or more.

I registered online and got my ballot within a few days. The only other time I did this was in 2004 when I was deployed overseas and the ballot and envelopes look almost exactly the same.

minnesota state law states you can vote in the morning of a general election and your employer has to pay for the time your absent from work to do so.

i will vote in person at the polling place.

State law may state that but it doesn’t mean it won’t cost you anything. Since he’s working a 12 hour shift I’m going to guess if he told his employer they need to pay him for his time spent voting or let him leave during his shift to vote it’d be a great way to pizz off his boss/employer.

What a BS law. Why should employers pay you for your time spent voting? It’s your civic duty, not your employers. If you can’t manage your personal schedule to find enough time to vote outside of work, or early vote, or absentee, or vote by mail, or any of the other options to easily do something that you’re portraying yourself as supposedly believing is important?? Then that’s on you, and you’re not competent enough to vote in the first place.

Asking your employer to pay you for your time to vote, WTF? Do people actually do that? Go tell their bosses they need to pay them for an extra half hour because they voted?

There’s no way I could do that without feeling like the biggest schmuck of a dbag to ever walk the planet….

You’re right, I totally agree. I will be writing my reps since that’s a very outdated law written back when people actually had to physically go to a polling place instead of putting a piece of pre-addressed, postage paid mail into their mailbox.

It makes you wonder how many people are going to vote early or by mail and then still have their employer pay them for time they falsely claim was spent voting in-person?

    I’m guessing it’ll be more than a few….

You could just download a federal write-in ballot with instant registration and no ID/signature validation you don’t even have to vote in your own name (if you’re so inclined). Any 6th grader can figure out how to vote.

How do you know if your polling place isn’t allowing walk in voters? I looked up my polling place on my county website and didn’t see anything. I’m assuming I’m Good?

I think I figured it out. At the end of the pages of polling places there was a short list that said they were mail in only.

on the news the other night they said there are a few counties, towns and muncipalities that have always been mail in voting due to the expense of training, paying election judges due to the lack of population in those areas.

never heard of any voter fraud ever in those areas!!!!!!

    .

I believe in these areas you can still go to your county seat to vote in person. At least that is true in the township that I reside in. My wife did this with her early ballot this week.

Colorado has been doing it for years. At least they mail a ballot to everybody. I’m not sure if it is strictly mail back in or if you can drop it off.

The real scary part here is how proud you are of your ignorance, entitlement, and pure lack of respect for the health and safety of people around you.

well yesterday the 8th circuit court just ruled in minnesota all ballots that are to be counted must be in by 8 pm election night. they claim this helps republicians for some reason but i cant figure out how??? any ballots coming in after that need to be put in a seperate pile in case this is overturned.

if i understand correctly ????? didnt the supreme court overrule some places like in pennsylvannia they can count ballots up until 7 days later as long as they are postmarked by nov 3rd!!

all i know this 8th curcuit court is way screwy, at least the experiences i’ve had.

I saw that last night too. The reason they wanted to add an extra week past the election was because of the pandemic. They assumed that there would be a much higher volume of mail ballots than usual (and there are). I believe the judge that over ruled it cited the reason as unconstitutional. The secretary of state made this decision and the judge stated, under the law, he is not able to do that simply because there is a pandemic going.

I’m not really sure how this benefits one party or the other either. I am of the opinion that everyone knew when election day was and mail ballots were readily available for weeks in advance, so if you were waiting until the final week to send it out because, that’s your own fault. Mail ballots here in MN were available way back in early September.

i agree, minnesota is now blasting the information out there NOT to mail the ballot but drop it off or vote in person.

still doesnt explain why in 2 other states the supreme court has allowed the extention. like i said earlier this 8th circuit court is wacko!!!

You are correct that people should have sent them in already, but we have all put something off a little longer than we should have. The issue is it states clearly on the mail in ballot that you just need to have it post-marked by election day. Now they are changing the rules.

Glenn is right, both Pennsylvania an North Carolina have a three day extension in place. I don’t like the concept of pushing back results either, but peoples votes need to be counted.

I didn’t realize that the ballot indicated that it had to be post marked by election day. That tells me the rules were established well ahead of time too, like you already mentioned. Changing it now does seem sketchy based on that.

I still stand by my point made that there’s no excuse for waiting to do it at this point though. Its the same crowd that waits until the day before deer opener to buy their license or waits until fishing opener to start their outboard. Get prepared ahead of time so these problems can’t even occur when the time comes.

Thought I’d try early voting in Brooklyn Park and the line is huge right now. Someone who finished just told us at the end of the line that they waited for 1.5 hours.
