High school sweethearts, our lockers were next to each other. Been married 22 years. We’ve spent the last 18 years raising triplets ( 1 girl, 2 boys). By the end of this month we’ll be empty nesters, as the kids leave for college.

LOL Until you said this and I read my post I didn’t notice. Duck
I also know I suck at spelling and poked fun at my nephew for this just last week. waytogo

Spilled a beer on her at a college party. 44 years of wedded bliss in a couple weeks. Mother Nature incarnate.

met my bride of 30 years at a bar after a day of negotiations. seen her at another pub the week before talking to a high school classmate and new she wasnt from the area.
her and i where the only one in the bar, got to talking, played a couple games of foosball. i asked her out and she accepted. she was brave enough to stop over at my house the same nite. went out a week later. i had 3 kids she had 2 so we combined families.

as time went on i asked her about the guy at the river roost she was talking to. i happen to hang around, well ok ,go drinking with in high school. she said they met him at the dance hall in richmond years back, she was from the cities and her parents had a cabin on Rice lake and they’d hit the ballroom on weekends.

so these 2 clowns i hung around with in high school always talked about these “chicks” they met at the dance hall from the cities…. and after the dance they’d go out to there cabin and have a fire. but they never told us where.

ends up these 2 chicks ended up being my wife……..and my brother married the other chick!!!

My wife came into my junior shop class asking for help to fix a chair from her senior business class. (Older, plus 1). She always wore a skirt to school because she had an afternoon job at a bank. She says she specifically asked for me to the teacher, so I take her word for it. The she started showing up at the sportsmanship club I attended on Wednesday nights. (Her step father played cards there but I did not know him well. Got the nerve to ask her out and we set up a date to go see The Towering Inferno (1975) her graduation year. My dating career consisted of maybe 5 dates thru high school. Her dating career was truly a career! Lol. I think she dated the freshman class, the sophomore class, the junior class, the senior class, the college freshmen. Well, you get the clue. Lol. But I got her! We got engaged at my senior prom,(1976) and married in February of 77. I was 19 by about ten days, she was 19, turned 20 in July. We are soul mates, best friend, and partners. Will be 44 years next February

my older brother has a birthday party every year on the fourth of July as that is his birth date.
anyway, I had told him I was tired of being alone the previous ten years and wouldnt mind meeting someone who would be interested in putting up with me and my ways.
as luck would have it two girlfriends of his and his wife was going to be there and both of them were single!!

one caught my eye right away, the other one?? well sir,if she hadnt turned sideways I would of sworn she was a two by four leaning against the house.
none for me thanks,I wanted something that had,,,,,well,ya know, something to,ah,er,ahem,I will leave it at that.
at the campfire I put on the charm and started telling jokes and stories of my past and the many things I had done in my life up to that point, thats when it happened…

I was eating a campfire roasted brat with mustard and kraut, the dang mustard shot out of the bun and landed above my right eyebrow and I simply licked it off like I always do when something like that happens.
y’all could say that is when she took notice of me,a couple of weeks later she called me and the rest is history.

she is the catch of a lifetime for sure, she put up with me being housebound for over three years when I was sick and has been through a lot since then helping me endure the ups and downs of dealing with someone who is allergic to almost everything in daily life.
I have said it before here,I think my wife is one of the rare times when the Good Lord allows a guardian angel to marry an earthly man as the man would not due well without her and end up in hell.

And,to quote popcorn Sutton,( paraphrasing here ) she has the finest chest that was ever hung over a pair of tennis shoes.

I love you to the ends of the earth Sheryl, thanks for everything you do and are to me.
    18 years next week !!

Met at a bar after a fast pitch softball game I had just played in. We started to talk. Set a time and place for our first date. 3 months later I proposed. Been married 35 years. The funny thing is she went home after the first date and called her mom told her she had just met the man she was going to marry! Wish she would have told me because I sweated for a while before I got the courage to ask her.

You’d catch any lady’s attention if your tongue can lick stuff off your eyebrow whistling

Enjoy everyone’s happiness tales here. Good read for this Saturday morning.

I’m sorry for everyone who’s been through divorce. It doesn’t sound like an easy path, but no doubtedly a necessary one from time to time. I know a few couples, including a close cousin, who are going through divorce now and it just breaks my heart. I know not all marriages are happy, people change, fall out of love, or make bad decisions and it’s better to part ways after… but the romantic part of me will always be mournful for those going through divorce. Billy and I weren’t perfect and we definitely had our share of fights, but the thing that kept us going is that we both refused to give up. We refused to throw in the towel. Life threw many obstacles at us, but we just kept holding hands and helped one another back on our feet. I always said I would rather walk through fire with him by my side than wade through a calm stream alone. I realize now how rare that kind of love is.

We met at work about 3 years ago. She was dating someone else at the time and within a year or so she left to another job. I had a big time crush on her but certainly didnt pursue out of the respect of her relationship. Thought for certain she wouldnt be interested in me anyway. Also thought I’d never see her again after she left. About a year after that, I received a facebook message from her. We chatted for a bit, like we had several times after she left the job, but this time she did everything she could to keep the conversation going. I thought it was a little odd, as most of our chats were nothing more than “hey hope youre well, we should catch up some time.” I did a little creeping on social media profiles to see that pics of her previous boyfriend had been deleted. woot

We continued to chat, started going on dates here and there, met the families/friends yada yada and became official shortly after. Everything came so easy with her. She always wanted an outdoorsy guy, one that could teach her kids how to hunt and fish, just like her dad. We both fell in love almost instantly. I had every intention of staying single til 30 or so and then maybe settling down when I was ready. That was until I met this girl. Within a few months of us dating she moved into my apartment and soon after that she started asking about a ring. I entertained the idea but thought it was a little soon. My main concern was upgrade in boat before a ring. After all, I go fishing about every weekend anyway. In my mind, a bigger boat was a lot more useful than some rock on a finger.

The relationship didnt last much longer. We had a good run. Where should I go fishing next weekend? moon

Shortly after my 4 year stint in the Marine Corps. We first met June 1985. She was working at the Woodbury Roller Rink/Health club.

Jon I had to chuckle that someone else met there FW at the Roller Rink. I met mine in high school when we both worked at the roller rink in Rochester. She was 15 and I was 16. Also knew her Mom and step dad pretty well as they were roller skaters also. FW was not real interested in me after a couple dates, for some reason. After we stopped dating I told her Mom I was going to marry her. Time went by, did a stint in the Marine Corp and came back for leave before going to Okinawa in 1978. Ran into her at a bar and after finding out she wasn’t dating anyone I asked her out. Fast forward 42 years and we are still together. She was worth the wait!

    Alright, I’ll play along.

I was at a house party having a good ole time. This Blonde gal shows up with her friend, a brunette. Well, some time goes by & the blonde I was eyeing up had went out to the fire. I had her friend, the brunette, hold/watch my bottle of 99 Bananas. The blonde and I were having a good time outside chatting and what not. They were about to leave so I asked for the blondes number. Well, she didn’t have a cell phone yet or was out of minutes, I can’t remember. So, she gave me the Brunette’s number since they lived together.

Fast forward a couple of weeks. I find myself at the same house, having another shindig. So, I decide I’m going to call the blonde & see if she wanted to come out to the party. Well, the brunette answered. We talked & talked. And talked some more. Never even got the blonde on the phone. Needless to say, that brunette became my FW!!

Officially became an “item” 4-1-06. Married 6-15-13 & still going strong!

I still love reading though these happy tales of how you met your special someone! The world has gone so digital with everything and our opportunities to meet new people aren’t quite what they once were unfortunately.

I completely missed this thread when it happened. Likely due to Covid and I wasnt online much. My wife noticed me for my truck. I was a Junior in college and she a Freshman. I had a brand new truck and she had to meet me. I guess nearly 30 years later my money keeps her around.

I met Judy on October 2, 1965. We were in the Anoka band traveling by train to La Crosse to march in a parade. She was a junior flute player and I was a senior tuba player that had just transferred to Anoka. I was a so-so tuba player and haven’t played since high school. She’s an excellent flutist, taught flute lessons in our home for years and continues to play quite often at our church. We were married in August 1969. After graduating from U of M in 1970 I joined the Air Force (low lottery number). Judy followed me to Texas for USAFSS training and then to Turkey for 3 years. After the Air Force we settled back in Anoka, bought a house in 1975, raised two daughters and lived there for 37 years. In 2012 we sold the house and moved up to our cabin full time. Judy was unsure of the move and wondered if we were going to be hermits during the winter up on “the tundra”, as she called it. We now both agree that moving up here was an excellent decision. We joined a great church full of other couples that had retired and moved up north, so we now have a great group of friends and a much more active social life than we ever had in town. That’ll be 54 years for us this August.

I bought my first pc in 2000 at 27yo. Never even took a typing or computer class before. I was planning to figure out how to use it to make money or at least find a better job. I kept getting this pop up that I had a free singles ad on AOL Digital City so I figured what the heck. I remember titling it “hunting for my better half” and said something to the effect of “fanatical hunter and fisherman not meeting any ladies in the woods or on the water, so hit me up if you want to come along and don’t if you have a problem with me doing that”. I’m sure it was a lot more wordsmithy and romantic but you get the point. I received a total of TWO replies. I chatted with the first one for a little bit, who came off like a teenager. When she logged off and said she had to go to her job at Burger King, I was pretty sure she was.

Dawn replied to my ad the next day. She lived about 80 miles north, just over the WI/IL border. We had our first date at Bass Pro Shops, followed by lunch at the fanciest steakhouse, Outback. We then went to the swankiest bar along the WI interstate, The Brat Stop, shot some pool and had a few beers. After dark we went to a local pumpkin patch and did a haunted hayride and sat by the campfire for a while. I ended up crashing at her place, didn’t even own a cell phone, and my family thought I’d been murdered because they hadn’t heard from me in almost two days. She moved in with me in 3wks later and we’ve been together ever since.

    I’ll add mine.

Went to high school together. Always wanted to date her but we were always taken when the other was single. Fast forward to after college we reconnected and I sealed the deal with my incredible personality. jester we’ve been together for 15 years and married for 8. She’s a way better person than I am and has made me a better person along the way.

I was visiting some friends at Bemidji State after deer hunting when I was introduced to a cute blonde with killer green eyes. She was with another guy so that meeting wasn’t very memorable.
Fast forward to spring and I was up there visiting friends again and went to a concert at the college followed by a bonfire. I was introduced to Crazy Kathy again, I remembered the green eyes, she didn’t remember me at all. We talked a lot that night, but she had a date the next night so it looked like that would be the end of it. Then she asked me if I wanted to get together again on Sunday before I headed home. On Sunday we made plans to have a date Memorial Day weekend, and other than a couple breakups before we married we’ve been together for 49 years, married for 46.

Back in 1987 I owned my bakery in Blooming Prairie MN, I just put out a sign for help wanted AND SHE WALKS IN!!!! The most beautiful lady I’ve ever seen, I asked if she could decorate cakes and she said she’s done at home for family and friends. Man I wasn’t going to let this catch of a lifetime pass me up so I hired her .After 2 years we got married and she’s worked by my side up till we retired from baking, she sure made me look good all of those years this lady was the ultimate lady, no swearing drinking she never even heard of half of the words that came out of my rotten mouth. She fishes with me and hunts and even makes a mean meal. To be quite honest I hope that she outlives me because we have spent the last 34 years together side by side and I wouldn’t know what to do without her. Yeah guys she’s the real deal.

It was the summer of 1970. I was 19 and Diana was 17. We met at Thomas Beach on lake Calhoun where all the hippies hung out. Summer romance ended when my folks moved out of state and I went to college in Colorado. Got back the next summer… to late she picked up with a classmate and was, going to get married. Out paths crossed a couple times once in 1982 when she was getting a divorce and I was getting married. Fast forward to 1997. I’m newly divorced and was catching up with an old mutual friend who had a death in the family. After updating him on my singleness, he says well, you know who you should get ahold of….I end the call with Diana’s phone number. She’s single and living in Burnsville. Of course I overthink things and sit on her number. 2 days later my phone rings…. It’s a woman on the other end and asks me if this is Mike. Ya, then she says this is Diana, are you interested in meeting me? Well, yes I believe I am. We got reacquainted end of 1997 and were married in early 1999. Love of my life. Now we get to spend our golden years together enjoying our lake home together. She doesn’t fish but completely supports my time away on a lake enjoying the other love of my life… fishing.
