How about LED headlight upgrades

Amazon LED low beam on left side factory Halogen bulb on right. 2015 Ford 150

To answer some of the responses below. I did my research and checked alignment height on a flat parking lot so no high beam flashes from other cars. This was a upgrade needed because the poor weak OEM headlights on these trucks. The color temp is higher then I wanted but there is no choices in a lower color range. These are 26w vs the factory 45w. Cost was $40

Are you going to provide shades for the other people on the road? Too bright. Very inconsiderate of other drivers imo. The standard halogens have been good enough for decades……

No kidding. I hope to not meet you head-on!

Please make sure they’re properly aimed.

LEDs usually need housings designed for them to prevent unnecessary glare. I meet a Jeep CJ about every morning that about blinds me. The factory LED headlights in the new Chevy trucks are bad enough

when its too bright as oncoming, I turn my brights on and will not turn them off if the approaching vehicle turns theirs on. the brights in my 07 GMC will out do any of the new LED ones…….LETS PLAY!

From what I hear your a standup guy bigcrappie and I’m sure you posted this just to help others out. But I could never do this to the other drivers.

These lights are an extreme pet peeve of mine. There should be some regulation on this. Half the time I meet a vehicle on the road I have to close my eyes. Then if you flash them they get all cocky and Flash you back even though they’re the one’s shining a freaking bright light in your eyes!!!

good headlights are a great thing for sure, but when it comes to blinding an oncoming driver on dims they should be outlawed period, if your eyesight is that bad wait until its light enough for you to drive safely.
after the last snow storm we had down here we met a guy who had a snow plow on with a giant LED lightbar that ran two thirds the width of his blade.

talk about staring at the dang sun !! I bright lighted him a couple of times and he wouldnt budge and I had to stop on the road to let him by us before I could continue on.
there are sometimes road rage could be justified with retards like that !

my f-250 headlights just plain suck. i thought maybe the bulbs were just crap so i went and got some sylvania halogen bulbs. (the exact same ones i have on my car which are plenty bright) after i installed them it didnt help one bit. 2 weeks ago i installed some beamtech led bulbs from amazon. they are much better. i took it for a test drive after i installed them and adjusted them 3 different times lower so they were not shining so high on low beam.

with the halogen bulbs i didnt even feel safe driving down the highway at night on low beams. i think every model of headlight housing is different. before this truck i never felt the need to even want led bulbs

That a good example of changing bulb styles and how it impacts the beam. The area above the hotspot is what is blinding oncoming drivers. You can see the cutoff is better on the bulb on the right.

I am constantly getting flashed in my HD Chevy when I’m hooked to a trailer and on low beam. Must be when the back end is swatting a little the front end must shine right at oncoming traffic. Not much I can do about it. 🤷‍♂️

I have actually looked at doing the same thing on my F150…. the stock lights just suck. A buddy mentioned doing the fog/lower driving lights as they can make a big difference and avoid the high blinding light issue. I can see where the led’s shown may have some concerning stray light going higher as Iowa-Josh pointed out – but they sure do put out a much more clean “light” that my 50 year old eyes could really benefit from.

Back to the original post…care to share what brand bulb that is?

The stock lights in a 2014 F150 are bad at best even with clean lenses. Yes, I’d get them properly adjusted to point downward.

Follow up for the haters, I am not that guy. Just looking to increase my view when driving at night, as we get older our eyes start to go, I did lots or research on this and watched lots of videos, so I did my homework. I am still getting used to the 6000k color vs the 2700k stock, wish they made a 4500k. That picture does not show the beams very good as my driveway is on a hill and I was to close to my garage door, I too do not like bright on coming car lights. I parked on a flat service at work and parked 25ft away from the side of a building and the hot spot matches on both OEM and LED, there is little to none over light. The new trucks have the same color head lights with the HID’s so there is no difference. I get the high beam flash on coming cars and if I seem to get more with the LED I will adjust down the lights, but driving 2 nights in a row I have not gotten any. I will follow up with my findings in a couple weeks but all I can say if what a big difference in what I can see on the road. Wait till I replace the High Beams and fogs LOL.

I wish there was an option for a 3 way setting. I live in a rural area and I want bright. Not just 100 feet down the road, but I want the ditches, fields and everything else lit up. But I agree on the poor guy coming head on to me. My low beams are still freaking bright and I get people flashing their brights at me all the time. I flicker my brights so they see I’m already on lows and I know they are pissed. But I also think a lot of people are too sensitive to it and just need something to cry about.

Many times driving in Canada at night, I thought it would be nice to have the off-road lights on a light bar or bumper wired in so there was a way to select them to come on when the high beams are clicked on. So I’d have regular low beams, high beams, and then a switch to engage a “super high” setting that would turn on the off-road lights with the high beams as well.

It would be interesting to see if someone out there had this setup diagrammed out.

I already did that with my old Gmc. Found out that two stack 30” light bars plus my high beams was a little illegal to use. But when your the only one on the road at night, it’s like driving at noon

Thanks for being the one to say it. I agree. And I am not going to put 3 grand into airbags because people whine that my headlights are too bright. Now if I’m breaking the law then that’s another story. I will look into adjusting them though. Keep on keeping on brothers! Frost is 5+ feet deep, and where it’s been driven on who knows how deep!

I have a 22” led light bar on the front for stuff like that. Works great ice fishing and deer hunting off road

I have a Mazda 6 that has a adjustment for aiming the lights depending upon how loaded up you are (so you can lower them if your chunky buddies are in the back seat). It’s just a dial on the dash. I can’t believe this hasn’t become more commonplace, especially for trucks that routinely carry a wide range of loads.

2016 Silverado, stock LED headlights. Stop flashing me. They are properly aligned, and it came this way from the factory. I’m not going to convert it to Halogens at my expense.

I wish they had a better design, I truly do, but the fact is MOST vehicles are now selling with factory LED’s and we all just have to get used to it. Complain to the automakers.
