Do they float if the engine dies on open water?

Mr Koonce would be the man in the know. I watched that video and Dave looked like he just spun it and it stopped pretty fast on fairly smooth looking ice. I just know there was a lot of talk on these and saw it on the auction so threw on the post I case someone. I like the enclosed area so you could fish out the side an stay out of the wind.

The thing better float with the engine off as they would not be legal on most waters if they sunk. They can be a pain to flush the water out of the skirt without blowing water everywhere.
They will coast quite a ways on any surface and only 2 ways(3 ways, but the third is obvious) to stop. 1 reduce power to the lift and allow the skids underneath to make contact with the surface and the friction will slow you down. 2, do what Dave did in the video, spin it 360 and apply thrust.
One downside is that these will blow snow in every direction and putting one on a trailer in the wind is like getting a boat on a trailer in current

What kind of maintenance is involved with a machine like this? How does a person house something like this? It’s big unit and conditions are not ideal that it’s used in.

That is a wide open question….
In a nut shell.. the less you pay the more maintenance you will have…??? kinda ??
Older motors, older fiberglass older skirts….
Lets just say you find one of the StarCrusiers…and it’s been sitting for several years…(most people that have them either use them or they are sitting for quite awhile) there can be quite a bit up restoration that would be needed…
Then once you have invested the time and money into it.. the maintenance items are ..the skirt.. patching and or replacement… normal oil changes and maint. on both motors….keeping the fan bolts torqued to spec…the push motor belt..

I have lots of things break or loosn up on mine…. I use mine quite a bit though… spring, summer and winter…

Or.. you could buy a new one…there are a few companies out there….twin motor units start around 25-30k

An old Scat might not be worth $1600. Why can’t they test to see if it runs, it is an air cooled motor?
