Fyi- seen quite a few postings in the last week of fishhouses and trailers being stolen in the Becker/clear lake/st cloud area

this morning on facebook someone had a vehicle description posted black 4 door truck northdakota plates jyd-921

sounds like the putz stole a trailer by briggs and were coming back later to get more when someone saw them and they bolted.

Very concerning to me. About 4 years ago there was a big issue in the Eastern Mankato lakes (where my house usually is). There was a point in time where more than 1 house was stolen on German overnight…It seems social media has really brought these thieves into the light and has helped recover multiple houses already this year.

I now take my entire tongue of my trailer with me when I leave my house. I had my Yetti broken into on German in that time frame and they ruined my entire door frame prying it open. I replaced the door and frame and decided to just leave it unlocked while i was away and take all items of value…well, that backfired when I came to turn my heater on and bust open old holes…someone took a crap on my floor…the most concerning part is there was no TP anywhere to be found, sorry sucker. I now do not use my deadbolt and just lock the handle. If someone wants to get in, it wont ruin the door and frame and it keeps the “honest” thieves from going #2 on my floor.

The issue I now have is I purchased a new Spear shack that is very easily stolen. The spear shack isn’t some scrap plywood screwed together, its a Banks Outdoors Stump Ice…I have been thinking about ways to secure it to the ice, but have come up empty on any way that won’t leave items stuck in the ice when I move it…

That is beyond depressing that you had to do all that. Sorry to hear.

I would think a guy could invent a alarm with exterior lights that would go off if somebody tried to move the house. Base it on motion. If somebody tried to break your house loose the alarm would go off. I would think it could run off a small lithium battery and keypad that you could hide? Much like house alarm pads?

If we are waiting for the scum to vacate society we are in for a long wait. If we can’t protect our stuff we can’t leave it around unprotected and then be surprised when something bad happens.

There will always be scum bags, all we have to do is outsmart them, which usually isn’t too hard. Hook a 12v up to the door handle so if they grab hold without a rubber glove on they instantly regret it. Actually, don’t do that. I’m not sure if it’s legal but it’s not a half bad idea

Could a person mount a GPS chip locator somewhere on the house? Similar to those that they implant into dogs at the vet. Not sure how they would work in this application.

They advertise chips on XM radio for if you lose luggage and stuff. Can’t remember the name of the product. Only problem with that is it only helps with the recovery not the theft. But yes, thats a option.

A solar light might scare some away but wont guarantee anything

Spot Trace https://www.findmespot.com/en/?cid=128. On sale for $50. $100/year for the service plan which is extremely reasonable compared to other plans on the market. Detects motion (vibrations) as well as changes in GPS locations and will send you alerts if there is anything detected. You can also track in real time if someone does decide to take it for a joy ride.

Its just sick that people cannot leave well enough alone. A buddy had his construction trailer stolen and lives in Sauk Rapids. There have been a TON of thefts of these types of things in recent months.

I have alarms and flashing LEDs on I’m construction trailers. If either door is opened or if the wheels move, it’s a hell of a light show plus the most obnoxious siren I could find. It took me a good part of a day to wire it in, but well worth it. Saved me over 10k in tools when someone cut the locks

Drill holes and run a chain thru each hole and thru your floor holes
and double lock the ends together

It’s a real sad time in history when the scumbags seem to be out pacing the kind, care about others, population

What happened to love the neighbor?

Sad times for where we could be in the year of 2016, IMHO.

A little tolerance for others who differ from ones view, along with a willingness to help & be kind & friendly would go a long way…

Makes me consider if building/buying one is worth it living in the only MN county w/o a lake. Is it worth the risk versus owning my own hubs, flip over & gear that is quickly outdated as the “bigger, better, fancier gear turns over faster than software”

Is the day coming where a CCW happens to be present? Kinda sad to think the mentality that frequent areas of big cities lurks in remote lake country. Theft & burglary have to be one of the most frustrating, uncontrollable occurrences that force some awful feelings onto the victim. Been there more then I’d like to admit. I prefer to trust other anglers/sportsman. You think I’d learn my lesson..

As Sportsmen and women, how do we improve this loss of another freedom? The ability to leave our hard sided shacks on your favorite lake without fear?

That’s a good idea and I was thinking of something like this but what if your holes freeze over and you can’t get the chain out or what about a jack wagon who comes and hooks up to it and it isn’t breaking free so he pulls with all his trucks mite and rips the floor our and completely destroys your house
