A week from today a group of my high school buddies will be going on our 9th Annual Trip with Rainy Lake Houseboats. This will be my 7th trip, as I had to miss the last two. Between this trip and a trip to the cabin for the 4th, I am beyond excited for some R&R. My buddy sent me this link of the houseboat sites, that I had not seen before and I thought some of you might find it useful.

Also, anyone that has been on Rainy recently or between now and us going off the grid next Tuesday, I’m all ears for any fishing reports. We usually do pretty well chasing the eye’s, but any up to date info is always appreciated.

Probably get pretty close to the tiltin’ Hilton.

My wife and I are heading up tomorrow morning, camping at the Kempton Entrance East site for a week. I’ll be fishing Saginaw all the way to the east end. Cell service (ATT) is spotty (at best) where we’re camping, but I’ll try to PM you whats working and water temps before you head up.

Eyes are in transition to the reefs I’ve heard, so I’ll be starting there pulling lindys and spinner’s. We usually cast shallow rocks for smallies in the evenings and sounds like they are off the beds but still close by.

Sunday is looking like a run to the Hilton for lunch for us, then fish our way back to camp (tho my wife is usually napping all the way back from a few “pink things” LOL.

Have a great trip, sure can’t beat VNP in summer!!

22′ to 30′ is working on Kab right now although everything for us is small. Been using Leeches going to try Crawlers and Minnows in the next day or 2. Flicker shads later this morning.

Thanks, you too! Can’t wait to get back up there, and the spotty cell service just makes it that much better imo!

I’ll be arriving Saturday at Thunderbird. I expect them to still be on windy points and also on reefs near the bays. Will be trying Canada side on east end first. My guide buddy’s will steer me in the right direction Saturday night at the bar. PM me Sunday night and I will let you know how I’m doing. WE may do a lunch at the Hilton Sunday or Monday also. 186 Triton dark grey 150 Mercury if you see us on the water.

    Good luck

    Wayne,
If I can get cell service I’ll try to PM ya with what I’ve found. We’re in a black 1850 Tyee/175 Verado. Will be my 23rd consecutive year of hitting the Hilton!! Luckily I get at least two more visits there this summer yay

I totally agree, but when you’re spending 6 nights in a tent on Rainy, being able to see what the radar looks like can be a real good thing!

Like Wayne Daul, I get a Canadian license. It is less crowded on that side. If gas is not a problem you can run up to Bleak, Seine and Swell Bay. I believe you can get a 7 day license. No other requirements to fish the Canadian side other than you can not touch shore or use an anchor.

    Good luck!

I’m still old school and purchase a border pass. Also pay attention as Canadian size limits are different. I fish Seine Bay in August only seem to catch Northerns in July. I also plan to target Crappie in July and August.
Just a couple days and the adventure begins.

No, what you are smelling and seeing is the smoke haze from the fires in Canada! Have a great trip & stay safe.

Haha probably, pretty awesome sunset last night from it! Although it’s really just the pines of Nevis that I’m smelling, which is not a bad place to lead into a HB trip!
