I’ve been super busy at work and lost track of the final decision, but just heard the news that the SRCL was one of two lakes approved on 3/15 for Muskie stocking! AWESOME!!!! First fish to be stocked this fall! Here’s to looking forward to my first Muskie followup about 5 years from now!

Sweet… They are also stocking Roosevelt north of Cross lake. That should also grow some monsters. Deep lake with tons o’ ciscoes!
March 21, 2011 at 7:16 pm #949262It’s really a bummer they won’t be stocking Tetonka down by Waterville. Those guys only have French or the hour and 15min drive to tonka. North & south long by brainerd not being stocked dosnt break my hart as there’s better options for stocking in the area.
March 21, 2011 at 11:40 pm #949341I completely agree Muskies should be stocked in Tetonka. I fish southern MN muskies mainly french and waconia. I’m sorry but what lakes are on this chain?

16 connected lakes, some of the more popular are Horseshoe, Ceder Island, Becker, etc. Tons of water and cover as well as more than enough suckers & carp to feed on…I’m excited about the possibilities of growing huge fish in the chain…

March 24, 2011 at 2:08 pm #950303Maybe I missed it somewhere but are they going to be stocking the chain with any adult fish?

I don’t think those details have been released yet, I’d guess it would be a combo of Fingerlings/Yearlings and maybe some juvenile fish? I doubt they would introduce any fry…I’m sure they’ll take data from other initial lake stockings and do whatever provides the best overall survivability results.

There already in tetonka and all the connecting lakes. My family has a cabin on tetonka and I have witnessed 2 monsters muskies caught (53″and 54″) 2 years ago. I have personally caught a muskie by accident on cannon lake and below the woolen mill dam in faribault. Just because they aren’t stocking tetonka doesn’t mean they aren’t already in there. Several years ago there were several muskies that’s escaped from the hatchery right outside of waterville into tetonka. The owner of nagels bait in faribault says that some have been able to migrated from french.
Just my 2cents.Take Care & tight Lines!!!

Ok thanks. I will probably have to give this muskie thing a try since the chain is only 15min from my front door.

Sadly, it will take 5-7 years before they reach at least 40″, that’s a high estimate by myself based on the forage they can eat in the chain…

This is phenomenal news The chain will grow HUGE Muskies and give anglers in the St cloud area a much needed option for muskies. I’ve already been looking at a map plotting spots.
Lol me too, I have a few spots that I know will hold big fish…We just need to open up a few Sucker/Carp fast food joints in the lake to fatten them Ski’s up…

Well that will give me an excuse to buy more fishing stuff for 5-7 years.
