Seems like the winter took forever, but another opener is almost upon us. Per the usual, the weather LAST weekend was insanely nice and this weekend looks to be cooler with the potential for rain (Seriously…Mother Nature must not like fisherman)
Spots to focus on are the current breaks (Koetter & Horseshoe entrances) but I’ll be focusing on some spots I found last year scouting (I won’t give locations yet, but the water depth drops sharply from 8ft to about 25 ft) I also plan on taking advantage of the full moon this weekend and hitting the sand bars at night. Please release the bigger Walleyes you catch (I only keep a few eaters for an opener fishfry, but let all the pigs go so the fishery can improve)

Don’t forget about the Northerns in Becker, they using go crazy on opener weekend hiting spinnerbaits.

Due to the early opener date, the fish seemed to be a week or so behind schedule. I didn’t notice as many small male Walleye being taken as normal in the Koetter lake wake zone. Later in the weekend larger females we being caught including the 25 incher I got (Took a picture on shore and then released it)

Overall my group took 4 fish between 20-25 inches for our Saturday fish fry. The next few weeks should be really good.
