I attended the SRCL (Sauk River Chain of Lakes) Annual Meeting last Saturday and the the proposed 17″ Walleye slot and 3 fish limit was discussed. A few old timers stood up and complained about loss of local business due to a reduced bag limit and slot. One guy even argued about hook mortality….
The bottom line is this, Slot limits WORK, they have been proven to improve a fishery and produce trophy Walleyes. This being said, there needs to be better enforcement of rules & regulations or anything we do will be a waste. I’ve only seen the DNR on the SRCL 2 times the past 9 years (I was happily checked for my license & livewell once) There are WAY to many people on the chain that keep EVERYTHING they catch. I asked the question of whether or not the Water patrol can check fishing regulations, and was told they can, but they hardly ever do…so what’s the point? I voted “YES” to the 17″ slot and 3 fish limit, I hope you did to..it makes sense for the FUTURE of the SRCL fishery…
