Although I had to work a 12 hour night shift last night I was able to make it out for a couple of hours yesterday. My boy really wanted to pick on some panfish. We located a school of what we thought were crappies in almost 30 f.o.w. where we have done well in the past. Since my partner for the day is only 5 years old and the temps very cold we quickly set up and began to catch nice sized gills up to 7 or even 8 inches. We released everything because I didn’t want to clean fish before work. Bright yellow size 10 tear drop worked best for me and my son used size 12 pounder with a float. For bait red larva out did the waxies. This was our first time catching gills in this area of the chain hopfully not our last.
