Just thought I would post a short review of my winter on the chain. Fishing has been fair for cats, walleyes produced a great bite but most are in the 10″ range, panfish are hit and miss and can be sorted to get few for a meal most times.

    Thanks for the post!

Do you, (or anyone) have any info on a map that shows the old river channel for the chain?

    PM me if you do…Thanks!

The horseshoe chain lake shore association has a wonderful map. That looks like it was taken from an airplane. It shows structure very well. The sell them at Gresers (the place that sells golf carts on 23 in Cold Spring).

I do have a map that shows the waterflow, but it’s not a electronic copy. Basically the flow starts at the boat ramp access near the Horseshoe/Becker lake split, it then runs through the top of horseshoe lake into East lake and hangs a right after the bridge, it then goes into Koetter lake (It turns to the left and avoids Ceder Island Lake) and flows down through Zumwalde through Great Northern through the narrow channel that leads into the large drop off into Krays lake, then into Knaus lake and finally flows through the narrow channel and goes under Highway 23 into the dam in Cold Spring.

Here’s a link to a super High res map file http://www.srcl.org/maps.htm
