Hold on, we talking this kind of offset?

    Or this?

    vs.

For the first one, there is no way I would ever pick that kind of offset. A circle need to work into a fishes jaw and any offset I would think takes away leverage.

For the second one, this is what I thought we were discussing. This I do prefer an offset eyelet, which is what the original post was talking about specifically…I think.

Also, maybe @beachbrian can help me with this one. What is the significance of the eyelet diameter on a rod for spinning vs baitcasting reels? coffee

For me half the fun of fishing for kitties is using gigantic hooks. I like the 10/0 Eagle Claw King kale when I feel like having the ability to set the hook but 9 out of 10 times that I go out I’m using Gamakatsu 8/0 offset circles. From what I’ve read the only reason to use in an offset circle is if the regulations require it. For surgeon I used the team catfish double action hooks that BK recommended in one of his posts and have been really happy with the results from them.

Pug the first is actually the offset that you want but not to that extent. Just a slight twist out of line with the eye. If it is in line with the eye it is a little harder for it to catch.

In regards to the offset eyelet on a hook.
It seems people’s preference is to use a snell knot on the offset eyelet. Isn’t that providing the same direction of pull as a non-offset eyelet circle hook?

I use the offset eyelet circle hooks and have always tied a palomer knot directly to the eyelet rather than a snell knot. I’m not a big fan of the line rubbing on the sharp cutoff point found on the eyelet.

Grizper…Isn’t it amazing how small a 10/0 hook looks in a 50# flathead!!! It looks like a rinky dink noze piercing! Amazing mouthes on those guys!

It’s not so much the eyes on the rod but more the way the reel seats sits.

It look funny as flathead poop when a newbie shows up with a bait caster attached to a spinning rod.

    True story.

(I as a professional would NEVER make that mistake) shock
