Hooking up with a double – kayak fishing kings

Been a heck of a year kayak fishing kings on the Wisconsin side of Lake Michigan. I thoroughly enjoy the offshore bite – trolling spoons, flasher/flies, etc for kings. Nothing like battling these kings in a kayak. I’ve caught over 70 kings this year and have had numerous doubles and even a triple. Some have been in the dark, so the best double I have on video is my double of 15 and 18 lb kings caught around 10:00am on July 2nd. I went 14-16 that day with 7 kings and 7 coho, but was releasing smaller fish since I was fishing a derby against the boats in Port Washington. It gets to be a pain dragging around kings on a stringer! I’ve gotten better at netting these guys than in the video – it’s my first year in a pedal-driven kayak, so there’s a learning curve on trying to net, guiding the fish, and pedaling at the same time. I took about 35 minutes down to about 2:30 – make sure you check it out in 1080p.

That is great. As a guy that does some kayak fishing inland, I can sort of appreciate how much goes into your efforts out there. A lot of work, set up, and commitment…. all very cool.

Way awesome that is simply incredible!! Keep up the good work!! Going out on Lake Michigan in a kayak takes some nerves and skill!

Thanks guys. 80% of the time I’m with other kayakers and on this day, I launched with 4 others in the dark. My dad was out for his first time and caught his first 2 kings out of a kayak. One of my buddies actually flipped his kayak out in 90 fow, but other than losing a bunch of gear, was ok. He bent over too far to grab his big king he had just caught and before you know it, you’re in the drink. My dad was beat and my buddy caught a 21 lber he wanted to get weighed in, so we took a break at 8:00 and I was the only one to go back out at 9:00ish – just in time for the wind to die down.

Pics of my dad’s first king and my 17 lber from the early morning, and then my two that I caught on the double (those were the 3 at the end of the video I weighed in)
