My buddy found this at the family cabin. Doesn’t recognize it. He’s in his 70’s, and it was his dads who owned a sporting goods store. Not sure if it’s a special hook. Or part of a lure or something.

It’s for hanging big dead bait like ciscoes under a tip up. Still made and used today

Found this under “Rainbow smell hook” (exactly as it is spelled)… otherwise known as a pike hook. You learn something new every day! Looks like Scheels and Ebay have them.

My dad called them swedish hooks.
Also illegal in Wisconsin and maybe in other states.

That hook has about as much meat on it, as the last sandwich I got from Subway. jester

There is nothing in the regulations mentioning anything about them??

Where are you coming up with that?

I’ve only used them a couple times myself. The nice thing about them is they’ll hold a dead bait horizonal with the belly down (with a quick-strike rig you often need to pop the air bladder and pull the guts to get them to stay belly down)

That said, I’ve caught pike with belly up dead bait too. When you think about it, it’s the natural position for a dead fish and they’re used to seeing that as well when cruising just under the ice eating dead stuff.
