So I trying to decide on a atv. I have it narrowed down to the Honda or the Suzuki. Everything I have read says both are great machines. I was wondering if there are any advantages or disadvantages to either machine. It’s primary use is going to be for ice fishing and maybe trail riding with my kids, but mainly icefishing. Oh and I’m not a gear head so break it down Barney style for me please.

I’ve always heard good things about the Honda line of atv’s….

What caused you to rule out the Yamaha Grizzly?

A buddy of mine had one and it caused him nothing but problems. And I know every make can have its bad apples. The research that I have done thus far has shown that these two have the fewest problems.

What year King Quad? I bought a brand new 07 750 and had issues with the charging system which would cause issues with it starting in very cold weather. I was told the issue came from the digital speedometer / instrument cluster. Maybe the fixed it in later models.

Me, just with the health of Honda and their dealer network vs Suzuki, I would buy Honda. Both may be excellent machines, I just think you will find more comfort owning it, and some day ease of selling it.

IMO Honda atv’s are about as bullet proof as you can get. They sometimes seem a little plain Jane compared to others but are about as trouble free as an atv can be.

My buddy has a 2008 King Quad 750. The motor blew up under 1000 miles with light use. Yes, this is an extreme case, but it happened.

I have a 1993 Honda TRX90, youth ATV. I use it on early ice and it turns some heads, it looks goofy towing a shack with a 200lb guy on it…it was purchased new and it has literally been sunk in mud and water dozens of times. It gets a Bi-decade oil change, and never has caused an issue. Honda motors just work. Period. Rincon’s are great machines and I see quite a bit of them on the trail. Obviously, Polaris runs the market, and I own a 2014 Sportsman, but they tend to have their issues more than others.

Can Am is another company to look at. Their prices have began to come inline with other ATV manufacturers as of late. Tough to beat a Rotax engine also…

I had a 2005 Kingquad 700 for 11 years with over 4000 miles of hard use and never had an issue (outside of a couple ripped cv boots). Used for plowing lots of driveways, hauling firewood, dragging trees, discing foodplots, and dragging a 1/4 mile long driveway. I now own a 2014 Suzuki 750 with power steering. Put a backup recoil on it (less than $75 to do) and have around 400 miles so far. The Suzuki has a differential lock on it which engages all 4 wheels unlike the Honda. It also has low range for towing, and any other work you may need to do.The Rincon does not have a low range. My Kingquad has always started for me, other than when it needed a new battery, but batteries on atv’s are never consistent with their lives. I would choose a Suzuki Kingquad or a Yamaha Grizzly over a Rincon any day of the week. The new Yamaha’s have more affordable models in the 700cc lineup, do yourself a favor and check them out, test drive them all and see which ones you like most.

I dont know where OP lives but if there is a Kawasaki dealer nearby you should consider them as well. Guys with Kawi’s get brand loyal real easy which says something. Plus they are funner on the trails.

I have an ’03 Rincon that has 17,000 miles on it. It has been a dependable machine for me. The one thing that can be a bit of an irritant is that in cold weather it requires a several minute warmup before the transmission operate normally. It will seem to “slip” if not warmed up. Once warmed up everything is fine. My Honda Rubicon with about 10K miles on it works fine right away in the cold. Fire it up and go. Not a big deal but a minor irritant at times.

I came to post the same thing. I own a 2007 Rincon. The transmission uses the same oil as the motor and it takes a few minutes to warm up enough to move. I wouldn’t let it stop me from buying it, but you should be aware so you don’t think something is wrong with it if you go that route.

I love mine, but for the most bang for your buck go with either the King Quad or Yamaha Grizzly/Kodiak. As mentioned, they have front lockers, low range, and available EPS, none of which are available on the Rincon.

Grizzly hasn’t changed much since 2007 (few minor changes) If it ain’t broke, don’t fit it… The design is simplified and the engine is bulletproof as long as you replace oil and wear items. I did a ton of homework before I purchased my Grizzly 700, yamaha checked all of my boxes….

Not on the Rincon, which is what he was inquiring about. You are correct that they offer it on the 420 and 500’s, but not on their flagship model Rincon. Doesn’t make sense, but that’s Honda.

First off let me say thanks to all who replied. You guys really gave some stuff to think about. After a lot of going back and forth I wiped my choices clean and did a lot more research. I finally decided to go with a yamaha kodiak 700 eps se. As soon as I get it set up and out for use I will let you all know how I like it. Thanks again.

    Enjoy it!

Any machine that gets you on the ice is a great machine, except for maybe a CF Moto… Congrats on the new toy and good luck!

Hondas are bullet proof all that you need to know. Hence why you don’t see many for sale used. They last forever.

The charging deal with the speedo on the suzuki was a recall that everybody should have gotten done, I have a 05 king and not a lick of problem.Starts great in any weather, if you dont use your machine often, put a battery tender om it. We go elk hunting every year, 6 machines all suzuki, not one break down. Honda is a good machine also, DK.

My 2003 Honda rubicon has been bullet proof. In my garage there will only be Honda quads, Yamaha outboards, ski-doo sleds, and benelli shotguns. If and when they die I will look again, but so far it has been a great run.
