Thinking of getting one for year round use and especially ice fishing. Just wondering what others experience is taking it out on the ice. I’d imagine the all weather package for sure??

The Honda Pioneer 1000’s are really stout machines. I have not driven the 1000-5, just the regular 1000. They are very good utility machines, but not the best in the ride comfort if you wanted to trail ride it. They are darn near bulletproof machines. I will tell you that your “backseat” is NOT for adults or anyone over about 4′ 5″.

Another good mention, if you are interested in other brands is the Can-Am Defender. They just released a 500cc version yesterday but also offer an 800 and 1000. Their 4 seater machines are comfortable for 4 full grown adults. They also have far superior suspension, if you care about that. Lots of people say that Can-Am’s prices are so much higher…I challenge you to take a look and look at a comparably equipped machine from other manufacturers and you will find they are about the same if not less in some areas. All while offering a better fit and finish.

If you plan on buying a hard cab for it you might want to look into the price of them before buying. I was looking at buying the 1000 earlier this fall and saw they wanted 7k for Hondas hard cab.

Yes…it’s gonna run into the 20k range. Expensive…but I would rather get it right to start. I was considering a firebrand house, but am now leaning to a Side-by-side as that would be a more versatile year round use than a wheelhouse. First world problems I know.

Rumor is in Nov they are announcing an updated model for the 1000-5 model. Which probably will increase the cost.

All the rumors on the Honda forums and leaked patent photos show a sport 1000cc SXS. There are multiple unused motor mounts on the Pioneer 1000 motor. I’ve seen it before with other Honda machines, a patent photo gets leaked and nothing ever comes of it…

If you’re going to get a cab I would look at a Polaris Ranger or Can Am Defender. Both use a special profile tube for the ROPS that allows the cab to be put on in a matter of minutes. It’s very slick.

The Pioneer is a nice unit, but the transmission is too jerky in my opinion. It’s also a pretty heavy unit so it will be easier to get stuck.
