Honda Lite Problem

Got a new Strikemaster Honda auger last spring and went to start up last night. Started through the break in process, but when I get to the full throttle for 10 seconds, it goes for 2-3 seconds then bogs down and quits. Fired it up a few more times, but did same thing when going full throttle. Any suggestions on what needs to be done to make it work.

    Thanks.

Warm it up. Those are cold blooded as hell. Once warmed up they purr like a kitten.

Yup. Start it and lay it down and warm it up for a few minutes

X3 on letting it warm up for 1-2 minutes. I experienced similar behavior when I first got mine and needed to adjust the idle speed screw on top of the carb. Did some research and found someone that was told by Strikemaster that the screws are adjusted way down at the factory for safety reasons.

It wasn’t a warm up issue. I was doing break in of auger and it had already run for 6-7 minutes by then. I will look at the idle speed screw and see if that helps.

    Thanks for responding.

Are these 2 stroke machines? If so, it sounds like you need tweak the High adjustment on the carb if you can.

If 4 stroke, is there a main jet adjustment on this carb or is it fixed except for the idle screw? If there is a main, open it 1/4 turn and try it.

Engines dying at high throttle settings are most likely starving for fuel.

Did you run it at all last spring and leave fuel in it? Could be bad gas or dirty carb.

I would try a capful of seafoam in the gas, it may have a peace of dirt or gum on one of the jets, also check and make sure the choke working right, look in the tank and make sure the fuel pickup is on the bottom and not kinked.

This was the first time running it. Strikemaster told me to clean out carb bowl as something from manufacturering may have gotten in there through gas tank/line. Frustrating on new equipment to say the least.

I will check the fuel pickup. Good idea.

One thing I did notice when I went to run it again was that when it is laying on ground, it runs great. As soon as it gets stood up, it is not running as well.

Try opening the gas cap and then putting it back on. If it is full of gas it can’t get enough air in it. Been working for me the last 5 years.

one thing to check is the fuel hose…I got mine a couple years ago, and the hose line from the factory was a little longer than it should be and there was a kink in it so it didn’t get enough fuel.
