Honda Foreman ES won’t shift to N

2017 Honda Foreman ES won’t shift to neutral and shows a “-“ on the display. It’s stuck in the shed so it’s not an emergency. But I don’t want it to happen in the field if I can get it going. Any ideas what’s going on. Less than 10 hours and never been wet so I don’t think abuse is an issue.

The only thing I can think as different was turning it off before putting it in neutral. Is that part of my problem?

Did you rock the machine back and forth?

No. What does that do? I’ll try it.

If the machine isn’t running it will help the gears align to go to into neutral. Every manual transmission has had that happen when trying to shift gears when it’s not running.

It worked! Thanks for the help. Why did it happen? Is it worth a trip to the dealer?

Every ATV I’ve owned has needed to be rocked into gear, that’s including both manual and automatic (mostly manual).

If there’s pressure on the gears, it basically binds it enough to cause it not to go into neutral. Likes already been mentioned, it happens and isn’t a major cause for concern.
