Homemade disc?

Has anyone here built a disc to pull behind their four wheeler? My friend and I are wanting to plant a few plots in the timber we hunt but can’t get the tractor to it due to the thickness of the timber. So my solution was to build a disc to pull behind my wheeler that would tear up the ground enough to make it easier to till right before planting. Any advice would be great!

I haven’t heard of a lot of guys building a disc, but I’m sure it’s possible.

A drag harrow is the most common one that guys build and use in confined plots. It’s basically anything you can drag behind an ATV that scratches up the ground.

The key with small plots in confined places is to get a good kill with roundup first, then remove as much of the dead matter as possible. You’ll never get it all, and that’s ok, but you want to be able to scratch up some soil so you can get seed to soil contact.

I was also thinking about the harrow idea. We got a late jump on it this year so will have to wait until next year. Planning on taking a skid loader in and clearing good sized areas this winter. But I like the idea of a harrow to clear the ground before tilling

Check out Ground Hog Max ATV discs. You have to put the back of your wheeler on blocks to hook the thing up using the receiver hitch. That way when you drive off the blocks you have a lot of the weight of the ATV pushing the disc into the ground. You can find them new for around $300.
