I found another recipe to make with my bountiful harvest of apples this fall…

Tonight I made homemade apple turnovers from scratch with no recipe! Okay, well I kinda followed my apple pie recipe…(https://www.in-depthoutdoors.com/community/forums/topic/my-first-homemade-pie/) and then just assembled things a little differently! They turned out great!
    😋🍎🥧

I rolled out the pie crust like normal and then just cut into triangle pieces, stuffed ’em full of the apple pie filling and then baked them at 350 degrees for about 24 minutes.

They’re perfect with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. 👍🏻

    Well done Sharon!

Next batch try pressing the edges of the crust with the tines of a fork. It will lock the dough together better and gives it a nice look. Also be careful not to overfill them, hot apple burns like he77. doah

    Good job!

Oh good idea with the fork around the edges! I was kinda impatiently pinching the dough and it worked okay for my first time around. Next time I’ll do the fork thing. 👍🏻

Since you are our Apple Queen now… wink take a look at the grocery store and see if they have “puff pastry” dough. Folds into a triangle real easy and seals well. If they have it fill some triangles and let the dough rest for a hour and hit it with a egg wash and pop it in the oven. You will like how that looks.

I’ve used the store bought puff pastry before and it’s good and easy to use, but I really love making my own dough. It’s a recipe for a dessert crust from my great grandma and Billy also used to love making that dessert from her recipe too. So it has special meaning for me right now I guess.

I can just see your neighbors lined up outside each morning waiting for the freshly baked apple goods from “Sharon’s Place”. Aka the apple queen.

I think I should set up a booth on the curb and then just place items in there to share! I used to send baked goods with Billy to his work and the guys at the shop would devour everything before lunch. It was a great system! I could bake to my heart’s content, nibble just a few bites of my creations, and then send them away to be eaten by others. )

Great job Sharon and the end result looks wonderful. How’s the waist line after all this creating? lol I know mine is expanding what withal the goodies Carole is cooking up recently.

I’m still in applesauce mode every couple days. Those apple turnovers sure look good though so maybe have to shift gears. I like the puff pastry idea for them…..thanks Dutch.

One of the benefits of baking is the workout! Running around the kitchen cooking and cleaning up after it’s all done really gets me moving! Some days I even need to make sure I’m wearing my gym shoes and not my fuzzy slippers for knee support when I’ve been in the kitchen all day. I started baking back when I was in middle school, so I long ago accepted I’ll never have washboard abs. I’d rather indulge my sweet tooth and then just go for a walk to burn off the calories. mrgreen

    That’a girl.

Carole made apple kochen yesterday and served it up with real whipping cream. Disgustingly good. The I had a check up with one of my docs this morning and found I haven’t gained any weight again for three months again. She said to keep doing what I’ve been doing since everything looks great. I didn’t tell her about the whipped cream or the treats.
