Home projects suck !!!

I love working on other people houses and doing projects I get paid for, but man is it a drag to do my own stuff. Recently started replacing all my carpet up stairs with lvp, and also doing the kitchen. I am no expert, but I’m a youtube professional. I almost hired nick to do it and still wish I wasn’t so cheap and would. But I hammered out my up stairs living room a couple nights ago. Stripped carpet, padding, staples and nails, removed trim to paint and laid my very first lvp flooring. Now the rest up my weekend will be 3 up stairs bed rooms, kitchen and a bathroom. Besides 2 gutter jobs I have tomorrow morning I think I have a full weekend ahead of me. Living room only took 4 hours between striping carpet and getting lvp laid down. I was pleased with my results. Now the lady has to paint the trim on the base and around the windows so don’t mind the pic has no base trim installed yet.

Looks nice, and a hard surface is almost always better than carpet too. Far easier to clean and maintain, especially with pets in the house.

It does, but it makes a guy feel good. I have been completely finishing out our basement and have done everything ourselves except the drywall/tape/texture. After receving a quote for $60k+ to have everything hired out, there was no way I was doing that. Its been a fun project, and have learned alot. Laying LVP next weekend.

Nice work. I do quite a few floor jobs on the side and feel the same way- hate doing my own, love doing it for someone else, seeing them happy with end result and walking out the door with cash in hand.

At my own house I only see the minor flaws, the things I don’t like, and of course I’ve spent money on materials I don’t get paid to do home LOL

I’ve got a driveway that needs the end cut off so I can pull out two culverts. Your saws do blacktop?

Our carpet was bad since the day we moved in. I’ll be happy to not have it any more. Especially with 4 pets and 2 kids. I just need to invest in some nice house shoes or slippers. I hate walking on hard floors.

Finishing my basement is the next step. I built 2 bedrooms down there when we moved in but now to complete the rest will be after the floors finished upstairs ( hope to be done by sunday). I got a quote for our basement and said lol guess I’ll be doing that as well.

Yes, that’s the downside to a hard surface is that its harder on your feet and knees. But I think the upside with ease of cleaning more than makes up for it.

Kind of like a boat interior to be honest.

Looks great BC! I always say “Never again ’til the next time.” I just find it hard to pay for something I can do myself– gotta think what your time is worth. My body’s not getting any younger either – did a Mudroom/Laundry room/Bathroom remodel a couple years ago – all tile. Ended up with some temporary nerve damage in my hands (numbness) from being on my hands and knees so much. took about a month to get it back to normal, but it turned out nice.

I work with my body all day everyday so I don’t worry to much about wear and tear. This is actually easy work compared to my normal every day stuff. But I get what you mean. I am just naturally a cheap ass and can’t pay people to do something I can do. I’ll do that when I’m older. My down time isn’t that valuable, so I’d rather be productive then lazy. And I had the kid help me so he learns alot as well.

The only thing I don’t enjoy about doing LVP is the way my knees feel when I’m done… doah

Same for me. I bought knee pads with wheels. They work great. I’m only a few years older then you.

Only bad thing about all those smooth floors is the dust/pet hair, you will see it all the time even after you clean the floor, never ending. I would get a Rumba or similar.

The lady has 3 roombas, I hate those things. But they work good when I don’t use them. My one cat actually rides the thing around lol

Floor looks great Bearcat. At least after 4 hrs you can get some great satisfaction and not have to wait for a month to get that feeling if it were a longer job you hated to be working on. I’ve done a few of the laminate floors over the years. My cabin neighbor would always see my knee pads and give me a hard time for wearing C.S. shoes. It took me a couple times before I understood what he was saying. -) RIP Buck Slayer.

So for you guys that have done lvp and flooring. What do I do on my stairs. Because my entry way will also by this product, do I do the stairs the same and run a center carpet strip or what should I do for the stairs ? I have a big flight going up and down stairs along with a sizable entry way that’s 16 x 20

Yes, that’s the woman’s weekend chore. And sanding the cabinets and painting them as well in the kitchen. Basically a face lift to the up stairs. Instead of rearranging furniture I guess we face lift the interior

I almost hired nick to do it…

That’s the route I went, and he did a nice job.

I was going to but then I received a degree on YouTube so I figured I had to apply my new skill set. 2 hours of laying and the woman was happy so I took that as a win

This sounds like my life. Too cheap to pay for it to be done. I would hire Nick to do any flooring job I am willing to pay for. He does great work. Looks good Ron.

If I was willing to Pau labor nick would be my first call. But what I save in labor is enough to buy all materials for this job and more, so that’s where my stubborn ass comes in. Helps that I can do pretty much anything I put a effort in. I built my last deck by reading deck builder magazines. Saved 10k and had it done in a weekend. I’ve been like this my entire life. Started out to poor to pay others so I had to do It myself. And now I just continue that mind set.
