Bummer I couldn’t find my way to the river today. Usually a good bite before and while the stuff comes down. Only good use for this stuff this early.
It’s about this time of year I start getting really sick of my big ol snow tires on the truck, then it snows like this and I rip er up going home and thank God I got em!

October 20, 2020 at 9:45 pm #1981147I said screw shoveling, left work early grabbed the dog, shotguns and kid. Pheasants hold tight in this weather. The pup got his first real taste of pheasant hunting. 2 nice retrieves but would not go pick up the third bird, would just stare at it. I went to go get it and the fourth rooster got up. Not staring, pointing and I did not understand.
1.5 hour drive, 30 minutes of hunting.
I can shovel tomorrow..CharlesPosts: 1992October 21, 2020 at 4:46 am #1981159Ended up with 6″ in the Hinckley area. The worst part was trying to drive home in the slush covered roads yesterday afternoon. OOOooofftaa! My Hooptie Honda commuter didn’t like it at all..
October 21, 2020 at 7:39 am #1981190I shoveled some of it. It was brutal. Back breaking, heavy wet crap. Like shoveling a pile of pennies. My neighbor tried to snow blow his and that didn’t work. Came out like ketchup.
Tom SawvellInactivePosts: 9559October 21, 2020 at 7:44 am #1981191I left it on the driveway and sidewalk for the guy that put it there to take away. Gone this morning. Highs tomorrow…..mid to upper 50’s. Bring’er on.
October 21, 2020 at 7:45 am #1981192A heavy 6″ here outside of Cloquet, with just enough time to clear it off before we get another 5-6″ tomorrow, and another 2 on Sunday.
And with highs of low/mid 30’s and lows of teens to mid 20’s, this stuff wont be going anywhere anytime soon
Its just too early for this to stay for good, even for up here. The only good thing is I got the leaves mulched, gutters emptied, lawnmowers/trimmer winterized, boat in storage, and a oil change and new drive belt on the snowblower before it started yesterday afternoon.Tom SawvellInactivePosts: 9559October 21, 2020 at 8:17 am #1981206Probably should’ve got this put away. This snow definitely caught me with my pants down when it comes to fall cleanup.
At least you had the tractor’s seat up Joe.
October 21, 2020 at 8:33 am #1981216I think we got 7-8” in Royalton, but it started settling immediately down to about 5-6” at dark.
This weather is a joke. I still have a 3-day Leech Lake musky trip planned and booked for next week! Looks like I’ll have to cancel and lose my deposit if the temps aren’t even above 32. Pretty hard to cast with an iced up reel.
October 21, 2020 at 8:35 am #1981221Got several inches in the SE Metro! Wet, heavy snow – not the kind for shovelling anyway so I just left it. It’s already melting a bit. The boys had fun playing in it once we found the dog toys buried in the snow but I’m not ready yet!

That makes one of us Just refused to believe late last week that Saturday’s cold front wouldn’t be followed by a warm front or at least back to average temps. I expect an October snow. However I can’t ever remember a mid-october snow followed by two more in 8 days along with teens to low 30s for a temp range.
So I’m taking the afternoon off. Shoveling first, winterizing the outboard, and organizing the garage.
October 21, 2020 at 9:40 am #1981256the #4 said this is the 2nd biggest snow event on record for oct.
ans some of us are going to get round 2 late tonight into tomorrow.
October 21, 2020 at 11:02 am #1981310I picked THE WORST day to haul my daily driver (motor let go @110k, thanks Ford) home from where it died over the weekend. Mankato area got POUNDED with snow and had to go get it and bring it to the cities. Took me a good 5.5 hours to get there and back. Accidents and cars in the ditch everywhere.
October 21, 2020 at 11:48 am #1981320When I heard last week there was possible snow coming, I got the Screamin’ Honda snowblower out of the back of the shed and started her up. 3 pulls. She’s been running like a fine Swiss watch since 1985 when dad bought her new.
I figured that action alone would guarantee that I would NOT have to actually use it.
So there I was last night blowing 5 inches of snow off 3 driveways with the Screamin’ Honda…
That is the earliest by far that I have ever had to use a snowblower.

I did the same thing about 5 days ago. Ran the snow blower in the driveway for about 5 minutes just to “make sure.” Granted, I never used it yesterday but I was still prepared.
Waiting until we actually get plowable snow and assuming your blower will fire up is a bad idea. Same with assuming your deer stand is still there from last season on opening morning in the dark or assuming your outboard will fire up on opening day of fishing.
