I bought my first new 22 a Mossberg, and then my first new shotgun , a Marlin at the local holiday gas station. I remember going to one of there bigger sporting goods store, I think it was on central ave maybe. I remember they had allot of sporting goods there.

When I was a kid I always liked looking at the fresh water World Record replicas they had hanging in the Holiday Plus stores in the fishing dept. I remember one time I went and bought some fishing stuff for opener, and then – on a whim – I bought a live lobster from the grocery area and cooked it for my mom for her birthday.

Yes, the Lakeville Gander Mt started out in Burnsville sharing the same building as Cub on Co Rd 42. It was in the space now occupied by Pet Supplies Plus. Before it was Gander Mt, it was Holiday.
The Holiday gas station still operates in that parking lot.

That was my first “go to” sporting goods store.

I remember that they had a post in the middle of the store where customers and employees could pin up actual pictures of the outdoor adventures, before there was facebook and websites like this. I had to stop for a look every visit.

Loved that place as a kid. Mom would grocery shop and i would head over to Gander. bought my first bow there.

My dad bought his 1100 remington from a holiday gas station. Those were the days.

I worked for Holiday Plus for 5+ years back in the Late 80′ and Early 90’s. I worked at the Bloomington Location. It was a incredible sports store. Far better than any of them around these days. The warehouse space they had was incredible. That was mostly why they could sell at such a good cost. The buyers / Managers they had working for them were excellent. They would know the local clients well and would make sure they had the items on hand that customers wanted. With the warehouse space most stores had they could buy in large Qty. and get great pricing. Way different business models back then than now. They also made sure their employees were well trained and knowledgeable on the items they sold. We were always having product training. Back then employee’s could purchase products on what were called Pro-form deals. It was a great way to buy quality top end equipment as real low prices. A lot of the employee’s that worked they did so just for the pro form deals. They often spent more on product than they made in wages. Their employee discount was also really great. Around Christmas they always had a big sale and the employee discount was even higher. Each employee had a area in the warehouse where they would have items put aside for the Sale day. They would close the doors and the employees would stay late to get all their purchases done. It was crazy the amount of items a lot of employees would have in their hold area.

I find it kinda funny that many bought shotguns/rifles from the holiday gas stations. I bought my Remington 870 12 gauge with a vent rib from Target. I was 14 and paid $125.00 for it and took it home riding my bike. No adults needed. This was around 1972 and at that time Target had a pretty decent selection of hunting and fishing equipment.

Got a pair of Holiday binoculars on the coffee table at the farm. Still good but time for an update.

    Wow! I remember those!

I grew up in Bloomington and most of our groceries came from Holiday. But when we went on vacation to the cabin a flat of Holiday pop usually made it in the cart. Orange, grape and root beer made my brother and I sugared up for the week.

I remember going to the Burger Brothers that was on the second story was that in Bloomington and the one that was in Brooklyn Center if I remeber right – I bought lots of stuff at the Holiday in Fridley, had a good friend that worked at the Holiday off of Bass Lake road. My dad and uncles bought lots of shells at Holiday gas stations, as did I in later years. When I started working at Target in 1985 they still sold guns, I sure did lust after that Remington Wingmaster, but at $5 an hour, it was a stretch, even with my 10% discount! That Target still had the automotive center at that time (Roseville), but soon after I started they closed that.
