Hole Sleeves Worth it?

This will be my first year with my new wheel house, after buying a camera, dry flush toilet, all the things etc. etc. I’m down to hole Sleeves, are they worth it? I assuming the 9″ diameter will fit down a 10″ hole, and no need to cut?

Do I get 7 of these over priced things, is there a cheaper option?

Totally worth it. Especially if there is little snow for banking the house. The wind gets to whipping underneath and heating becomes an issue. I drill my hole, then push the sleeve down into the slush then clean out the hole. It seals it up pretty good. You already spent a good ching on the house, what’s another $100. The one thing I really don’t have a use for is the slush catcher they sell. But my house sits up higher than most. So not much slush rises above the floor of the house.

A cheaper option is 5 gallon buckets, cut the bottom out to fit height wise. They fit perfectly in my catch covers, but stick up about 2” above the floor.

at least that stops things like cell phones and the like from going splash

Yes, worth doing it. Wind and cold factor is when you want them, and they help without wind too. Keeps holes from freezing up, make the airspace above the hole sealed to the interior, big difference in temps that way, even if you bank snow. Do it well, and you really don’t have to bank.

I’ve gone from homemade hole sleeves in first skid house, to Fish Hole Buddies in first wheelhouse, to Catch Covers in my new wheel house. Sprung for the safety web covers, too, saved a cell phone last year, totally worth it, saved an errant foot/leg, too. They are easy to pull off quick before ripping lips. Also got the handle covers for summer camping to save the toes. Sweet system.

Buy the sleeves that match the brand of hole covers you have, and trim them to height on a driveway dropped down, and do exactly what MNdrifters says – just jam them down into the slush after drilling to create a good seal. I’d never go back to not having them.

Completely agree that they are nice to have. Even when the house is banked well, your holes will freeze less on a cold windy night with sleeves. I have the glow in the dark sleeves. They don’t glow enough to do anything worthwhile.

If you decide to get screens to prevent wet feet or lost phones, I would skip the clear ones and go with the honeycomb style. I’ve had both and currently have clear ones. I would not trust the clear ones to prevent a foot going through.

As federline already said, “Buy the sleeves that match the brand of hole covers you have” They aren’t the same dimensions.

Thanks for the replies, I just ordered 7 of the glow in the dark hole sleeves. After spending $600 on a dry flush toilet what’s another $200 )

I just bought the glow in dark sleeves for mine as well and was going to get the clear katz covers for them. Have you had a bad experience with them why you say to not get them because I have heard the opposite. My BIL has them and he was jumping on them trying to break them and couldn’t but before spending $120 on them I would like to hear more if they don’t work that great.

I love mine. Came in really handy last year on ML with the little snow we had to bank. Push mine through the slush like Drifter said and then clean out the rest of the way. Never had one freeze down solid doing it this way. Depends on the house, but I had to trim mine about 2″ to fit flush on my Yetti. If they don’t fit flush with the floor, you’ll get a good draft through the top.

Good to know, I just got a Yetti myself. I will be sure to pack something along so I can cut them if needed.

I’ve never broke a clear cover… knock on wood…but they aren’t near as robust as the honeycomb covers I had in my old house. You’re story about the BIL has me convinced to stop warning my buddies to not step on them and see what happens. If it breaks and they get wet, I get to say “way to go stupid”, if it doesn’t break, well then I won’t worry about it anymore.

Hole sleeves are a must! Also, skip the slush bucket and get yourself a “slush copter”. Will save you a half hour of scooping out your holes and lugging slush outside. Takes 10 seconds to clear a hole full of slush. Hands down one of the best investments I’ve gotten since I’ve had my wheelhouse.

get yourself an ION with reverse and send all the slush out the bottom. best thing I have bought for that house. makes setting up so much easier had the 5 gal buckets cut for the holes used a year and got sick of them and bout the catch covers worth it!!

I would agree with the slush copter, takes seconds to clean a hole. Much cheaper then a ion too although I would love a ion for the wheel house some day.

Which hole sleeves fit the holes ice castle uses? They are bigger than “catch covers” if I remember correctly.
