Anyone ever been on of of these hunts. Hogs, exotics, etc? My Dad is aging and has lived through cancer. He has expressed interest in hog hunting not so far from home. Dad has taken a self guided trip of each turkey species in our nation. He has been on safari in Africa and took several animals. We are long time hunters and not looking for easy. Looking for recommendations in Iowa, Illinois, Missouri, and Wisconsin. Anyone have any insight or recommendations?

Sorry no recommendations for local but my son went to Texas a few years ago for a hog hunt. They hunted mostly at night and used green lights since none of them had night vision optics. I think the success rate is a lot better at night and depending on regulations that may narrow down places as well if you are not setup to hunt them at night or can’t use artificial lights.

For hogs you will definitely have to hunt them at night unless you are in a helicopter. Unfortunately you are probably not going to be able to find exotics or at the very least many options in the states you listed. Feral hogs in great numbers you will have to go well South and about the only place for exotics is Texas that I know of. You might be able to find a game farm or something, but those are going to be few and far between.

We are doing a python hunt in the Everglades. Started out as a guided experience last year, but not fulfilled by that. Pretty easy to DIY, rent a boat and bring a shotgun. Also, renting a Tacoma and running the dirt-roads in the boonies. Can internet scout on OnX ahead of time.

    Also catching a Panthers game.

Different stroke, but definitely falls under the exotic umbrella.

I hunted exotic rams in Texas with a group of friends back in the day. It was a fenced in ranch but it was over 1000 acres of steep hills/mountains. We spent the first three days up in the hills chasing the “smart ones” that have been educated. They are tough to hunt even in a fenced in ranch, amazing how they can scale a mountain in a hurry. You also see the real dumb ones, which is what I shot on last day. I forget all the rams they had running around but I shot a Corsican, which was the cheapest option, like $260. At the time, that $260 covered the lodging too, which was great for broke ass college kid. My buddies dad shot some Afghanistan thing, don’t even remember the cost of that. On this ranch you could shoot essentially any animal you saw with the exception of whitetails. I’m not into game farms by any means but this was a cheap, fun trip with a group of friends. Ranch was somewhere south of San Antonio, couldn’t even tell you the name of it.
