I think the guy is a giant PIA for his neighbors. He doesn’t get what he wants so he punishes his neighbors with the lights? My guess is there are other issues with him as well, I know I wouldn’t want a chicken coop in my next door neighbors back yard. Especially if it’s a neighborhood where the homes are close together. I live in development where our homes are on 3 acres so wouldn’t be a big deal here. OMG, mid typing and I just revisited the link and saw the chicken in the window! That’s priceless. Admittedly that’s my kind of sense of humor but still in the end I think he’s a PIA.

Whats wrong with chickens. Especially like most city limits to no roosters ? All my neighbors have chickens and never once have i thought to myself ” wow I hate those chicken, and the happiness it brings that family “.

If the city allows it I wouldn’t complain about a neighbor having chickens, but growing up on a farm with 600 laying hens, I can’t think of anything that smells nearly as bad as chicken sh*t. Hogs don’t even come close.

Well 600 is a far cry from 6 or 10.

Disagree about hog maure. My uncle owns a dairy and hog operation in northwest Illinois, spent some summers there as a kid. Hog manure is the worst when you have 400 hogs. Granted it was only 150 dairy cows.

those deed covenants can, have been challenged and beaten. you are not bound eternally to somebody’s past wishes on property.

Can be darn expensive to challenge the deed covenants. As you said, better off avoiding HOAs altogether an invest the money for legal fees in a few extra acres.

Where I live we have 1/2 acre lots and my neighbor has chickens. It’s nice because we get our eggs from him and the chickens stay in his yard for the most part. He had one get out and it came in our yard when our dog was out. It was one of those moments where you’re proud your bird dog went after and caught it but then had to explain things to the neighbor. Last I heard the chicken is still alive and we have good neighbors who understood the situation.

I hate HOA’s, and live in one rotflol . Thankfully our rules are very minimal, we have no board/president and the few rules are not enforced at all. It’s basically to pay for the maintenance of some community areas (park, causeway etc.). Every once in a while a Karen starts complaining that we should enforce them, and other members will point out the stuff they would be in violation of and we return to freedom.
