History Channel show about survival and the frontier

  • #1761514

Just saw that History Channel has this documentary show about America’s first frontiersmen surviving in the wilderness. An episode about Davy Crockett is airing tonight. “Men Who Built America: Frontiersmen.” They also had one about Daniel Boone but I haven’t seen any of it yet.

What do you guys think about this show, have you seen it?

Watched the first episode and it’s pretty good. Steven Rinella is one of the “experts” that add their .02 throughout the show, and I’m a fan of his so that helps.

I watched the first two. Davey Crocket & Tecumseh. Tonight is Andrew Jackson I think. I am recording it so don’t know what happens yet. It’s a good series to this point. Battle scenes are pretty graphic and might not be for kids.

How’s the history channel nowadays? Few times I watched some stuff it was all hyped up that seemed to fit this new need to be entertained all episode types.

Might need to give er another try.

6 months education? Look up how Grant was doing before they tried to get him back in the ranks.

Lots of great audio courses out there for anyone who likes history. Listening to a professor for 40-60min 10-15x gets ya way more than a tv channel. Try it out, won’t be dissappointed. Late Western Europe is another great history lesson, the beginnings of pre America.

Last nights episode with their early history in battle and then Pres. Andrew Jackson and his run-ins with Rep. David Crockett were very interesting…. funny how different the party agendas were back then… the President ran Natives off their lands and authored the legislation that created “The Trail of Tears” freeing up large tracts of land to grow cotton and ensuring the proliferation of slavery in the south, which Crockett vehemently opposed … and after being defeated with the help of the President in his re-election bid, Davey eventually ended up defending Texas against Santa Anna and his Mexican Army. Just think about that.

I’ve heard rumors that Daniel Boone was a man, and in fact, he was a big man.

    Can anyone confirm/deny?

    From the googler….

According to Genealogy Trails, Boone stood at 5 foot 8 inches tall and had a stocky build.

Late to the party here, but looks great. Related to Davy Crockett on my mom’s side (as if it really be proven based on what little records we have!). Adding these to the queue…
