Tim Hurley, I sure hope so, My doctor put me on it about 10 days ago for my right hip.
I seem to struggle with the quote feature and attaching photos, so here goes attempt #3 without using either:
Keep in mind that many veterinary products are done by weight, so check with your vet as what works for the 90lb Shepherd might be too much for the 20lb dog.
Another option for those with much older dogs is a carrying pack. We got a K9 Rover II pack a couple weeks ago since the Golden only makes it a mile or two before she really slows down. Now we load her in the pack and I carry her the rest of the way.
What is the verdict a year later from those that have used Glucosamine?
this thread popped up at an opportune time. Today I ordered some glucosamine for my almost 10 year old dog. Hope that will help with the soreness from this upcoming hunting season.
our 10 year old Doberman has been on the Dasuquin with MSM for about 16 months. i can tell she is moving around better. she still has problems getting up but runs like a puppy once she gets going. she is back to going up and down stairs which i want to limit if i can. getting old sucks and it goes the same for our 4 legged friends.
Studies show glucosamine works about 50% of the time.
Also it’s really important to have your dog at a correct weight. Seen some dogs get of pain meds after loosing weight. If people aren’t telling your dog is too skinny they are likely over weight. Ask your vet what your dog’s ideal weight is.
Our 14 year old went through every pain and nerve med the Vet had and CBD is the only thing that gave him comfort.

So important for larger breeds. Staying at the desired weight will really help reduce stress on hips and joints. My dog has a specific 5 pound range of weight she is supposed to stay in and I always try to keep it there. My vet has told me several times that maintaining a healthy weight is the single most important factor I can control when it comes to extending health.
Weight is a problem for us and our dogs. My vet always used to compliment me on my labs weight, he said if you can’t see a defined waist line on a dog they are overweight.
Glucosamine and chondroitin are the main ingredients to look for.
I used this a couple of decades ago on a dog that had arthritic hips per x-ray. It worked !!!
Cosequin was one of the original offerings, but lower cost options were abundant. Foster & Smith was a great source of lower cost options. They are not quite the same company after selling off to a larger corporation.
I now use Cosequin (Dasuquin made by same company) because their cost point is now inline with competitors and it is made in the USA hopefully with well sourced ingredients.
Baby aspirin (81 g) works well for soreness, but be careful. Aspirin can cause gastrointestinal bleeding.
Keep you dogs’ weight on the median or slightly lean side.
This will also help prevent ACL tears and disease such as diabetes.
Menards sells a Vet Worthy Joint Level 4 for dogs at $15 for 60 tablets. 500mg Glucosamine, 200mg Chondroitin, 200mg MSM, 200mg Green Lipped Mussel. I have been using this for a few years and the Spaniel eats them straight, without hiding them in cheese.
I just give my springer 1/2 a tablet of glucosamine/chondrointin with his dinner every day that they sell for humans Costco. Main thing is that you need to regularly give it to them. Then I have carprofen on hand for after a hunt or sometimes I give it to him the morning of hunting. He is 10 and definitely starting to really slow down and lacking stamina/endurance.
x100 on paying attention to the dogs weight. Biggest thing to prevent dysplasia, ACL tears etc. People say wow your dog is skinny, No she is fit.
This is a very good way to check your dogs weight. Should be able to slightly feel their ribs, like the back of your knuckles.
My dogs have always been correct weight. It’s so easy to accomplish.
