Spent the morning hiking in and scouting ice on a lake that has tigers, browns, and some brookies in it…Got to the lake and started spud barring around…One spot I would be on 5″ and a few feet over I would be on less then 2″…Got about 30-40 yards out and decided that any further would be too risky. Honeycomb spots everywhere and the ice wasn’t the best quality anyway…started getting pretty spongy. Packed everything back up and walked back to the car to hit a different lake that had some good ice.
We got there and the edges were pretty sketchy. One spot my spud bar went through and made everything under me vibrate, fun feeling…a little zigging and zagging and we were out on 6″ of solid ice and having a great time. Felt comfortable as we were only fishing 3-5 feet of water the whole day.
