That was like a summer thunderstorm last night. In December. Just poured rain for almost an hour. Coulda used that in June or July.

HIGH WIND WARNING

Heard on the radio this morning that last night’s storm was stronger than last years derecho in Iowa. The only difference between them was there were no leaves on the trees for the wind to grab, so damage was lower.
December 16, 2021 at 8:26 am #2081984Thankfully low key in Woodbury. Now lets make that ice back so I can go fishing!!
CaptainMuskyPosts: 22809December 16, 2021 at 8:51 am #2081989That was some pretty wild weather last night! As mentioned by munchy, we were lucky there are no leaves on the trees or this would have been a complete disaster!
Lightning, thunder high winds and now snow. I drove the kids to school this morning and what normally takes 30 minutes was an hour. I blew sideways on the ice multiple times because of the wind.ThunderLund78Posts: 2534December 16, 2021 at 8:54 am #20819903 story downspout on the north side of my house is what I ended up seeing blow into my yard. Was able to recover all of it and it’s still in good shape so it can be re-hung. No other damage, thankfully. I was shocked, our bedroom is on the northwest side of our house and anytime there’s wind, it’s loud. But I’ve NEVER heard it like it sounded last night.
I agree Suzuki! Bring on the ice and let’s have some fun.
Sucks what happened down near the Iowa border in Heartland.
December 16, 2021 at 9:08 am #2081999We lost a power line to one of our sheds, some steel off a different shed roof, and a few trees here on the banks of Pool 4. The wind around 2:00am was what actually got the trees after they survived the initial line of storms.
You know a storm packs a punch when it can take down full trees without a single leaf on them.
The house project seemed to handle the winds. Hopefully it continues to do so as we are currently having sustained 35mph winds with gusts at 50mph as of 9:00am. The standing walls had braces and kickers every 4-5′ around the entire structure plus our lull and the contractor’s lull snug over opposite walls. It was enough wind to blow some 2×4 – 10’s a good 70 yards across the open area and to the wood line behind the house.
December 16, 2021 at 9:15 am #2082000I’m amazed at how fast the snow melted. Woodbury had about 15-20″ during last Friday’s storms and this morning it was totally gone except for spots where it was piled high from shoveling. I never thought I’d see grass again until mid March.
December 16, 2021 at 12:26 pm #2082075Driving around the neighborhood this morning looks like I got the worst of it of the existing homes. However about 90% of the Tyvek on the new builds is shredded, some random roof sheathing and trim blown off and a stack of about 50 sheets of OSB and and a handful of 2Xs are scattered 150 feet from where they were originally.

That sucks man! Severe Weather is fascinating but I hate it when it damages property and hurts/kills people.
Erik SwensonPosts: 425December 16, 2021 at 1:32 pm #2082102Anyone else lose their boat storage to the wind?
Shed mine was in had the roof peeled off. No apparent damage to the boat, but feel big time for the neighbor who lost the shed…

I just saw the pics of that home in hartland that had the neighbors garage crash into the front of their house. I cant even imagine.
Erik SwensonPosts: 425December 16, 2021 at 2:27 pm #2082116Haven’t heard much for injury reports which is good! Didn’t see the photos but did here some damage was being surveyed in Freeborn county today for tornado assessment. That area had the only tornado warning in MN yesterday I believe.
Regardless, tough time to have property damage like that.
December 16, 2021 at 4:32 pm #2082150Any word on Lake Superior? Did the waves get as big as they were saying?
December 16, 2021 at 6:20 pm #2082179The NWS survey team confirmed two tornadoes that touched down on Wednesday. One near Hartland, MN and another near Lewiston, MN. They are visiting Plainview, MN tomorrow to potentially confirm a third.
These are the first tornadoes ever recorded in the state of Minnesota during the month of December.

December 17, 2021 at 8:33 am #2082281Red Wing had what amounted to a quick pass through summertime T-storm. They say 2″ of rain but since I didn’t have a gauge, it’s hard for me to disprove that.
I turned off the lights to watch the light show, then found out the power went out for around 2 hours. When the wind came, I looked at the Harbor Bar and thought to myself, that’s a long run (down the docks, then across the field to get to some kind of protection). Thankfully about the time I was looking for an exit, the wind died down. I’m not sure I’ll be riding out a known to be coming storm in the floating camper again. I have insurance…it would be a good time to use it if something was damaged.
I slept through the later wind if there was any.
